The longer answer: there are better ways to join highways and roads:
- Roundabouts
- Highway Ramps
- Mods for efficient Highway/Road Intersections.

That's my problem. In Germany it's standrad in bigger cities that a standard road becomes a little wider and then the road merges smoothly into a motorway. And vice versa. This solution shown in your image is
Yes, I used this solution before. But I want to build the center of my home town more or less. But there is no roundabout ;)
1) use 2 lane one way road
2) with the straight road tool, extend the incoming node by 10 units
3) draw from there to the exit node
Yes it doesn’t look great, but it will work great for quite some time
Roundabouts are available on the Intersections tab.
You'll have to modify them.
1. Choose a roundabout and plop it down centred on where you want it.
2. Bulldoze the extra roads that come with it.
3. Use the "!" road tool to convert the remaining roads to a one-way type you prefer.
4. Attach your existing roads.
