'Distance Too Short' message

I am getting the 'Distance Too Short' message quite a lot when trying to add a road, a lot of the time even when I am making a road of substantial length, just wondered if this was a bug as seems to be happening no matter which map I am using.

Are you by chance using the curved road tool when you get the message? I imagine you don't get it when using the straight road tool. If so then it sounds like you are trying to build the road at the same point as or behind the tangent line. You have to click to place the tangent line and then move forward or to the side to actually place the road when using the curved road tools.

Also, the middle curved road tool requires you to place the tangent every time where as the second curve tool only requires you to place the tangent line on the initial road segment and then any additional segments made immediately afterwards will dynamically place a tangent line automatically for you.

"distance too short" shows up if any road segment is going to be too short. So if you try to put intersections too close together or you try to make roads that curve too sharp you'll get that message.

I do find sometimes when I have the straight roads tool the roads will curve, maybe that is a problem with the installation rather than the game, have only had the game since Sunday so probably best if i just continue for now more than likely to be just a new player not reading the instructions problem, lol

Under certain circumstances when using the straight road tool it will curve. I believe it only happens when the road you are trying to draw is connected to another road perpendicular to it and you are trying to make it go at a sharp angle relative to the pre-existing road you are connecting it to.

In general I highly recommend avoiding short segments of road between intersections - it leads to major traffic problems later on. Try and have decent long stretches of road between each intersection if you can. *espeically* on roundabouts lol

I draw a normal road (leftmost road option) all the way across my area in the dotted lines.

I have no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ clue what this stupid message means and the tutorial didn't teach me anything that helps.

I just start this game for the first time and no matter what I do. Every road says Distance to short

Richard 7 sevens, me too. All roads are distance too short and now I'm out of money, but I did get a giant frowny face

six years later... I just started playing again and get the same thing. First road, connected to freeway, straight, all the way across the initial city limits. "road too short."

If you play on a PC. There in a mod that lets you build shorter segments.

Sometimes this message can be caused by uneven terrain between the two points, which can be fixed by smoothing the land.
