Any point in using non tree-lined roads?
The basic road offers parking along the streets. Does this provide any beneficial effect for trafic? Or is it just a visual difference?

I don't see a reason to lay down any road-type other than tree-lined, other than it's a tiny bit cheaper. Is that all there is to it?

It's cheaper, and people get parking spaces.

Basic roads have a use, IE it's cheaper. Great for industries and the like.
But the road in the middle, the one with grass but no trees ? They are useless. They are a bit less expensive, but not that much, and when you unlock the road with tree, you should be able to use them without issue, unless you decide your entire road system is better with trees.

As for parking space, some roads with tree have them (I think 2X2, not sure for the others). Also, I never found that useful in any way. They dump their car pretty much anywhere, sometimes extremely far away from their home/place they are going. I've seen a car near an incinerator, in the middle of nowhere. On the other side of the city, where the cim was, and far away from both his home and job. Perhaps it was stolen.
And when no parking space is available, they put it in their pocket.

Yeah the parking space seems to be cosmetic only.

Just like they pull it out of their pocket if they have to wait too long for a bus.

Actually parking space is not cosmetic only.

Due to every CIM is simulated in one way or in another, when they go to work, shopping or whatever they take the car if its not close enough to their home.

They drive to nearest park space to the destination OR nearest Transportation option and then walk the remaining distance.
So having Parkspaces assets is a great way to free up alot of road space :), both side of the roads and gives the option that the CIM dont drive around and look for a park space and adding to the traffic.

Just saw 3 cars running around in a big circle going to the same shop and they could not find a park space close enough.

Never seen that, everytime I happen to catch them arriving somewhere with tree-lined roads, the car just vanishes. I need to look closer a bit more I guess.

Vanishing cars is when they cant reach the goal destination, either bad road or just asset errors, but as we all know, they dont NEED to be on the place they are going to, exept for shops.

Ok so.. are the parking spaces on regular roads actually useful or not? Seems to be conflicting answers?

Nope. I just followed some cars around. They stop in front of or very close to the destination, car vanishes and cim appears, cim walks into the building. I have even seen this happening in a commercial district without tree-lined roads. There was a bus stop at that particular spot, but also free parking spaces just around the corner.

Roads all properly set up, having this happen with default buildings. I use the no-despawn mod which prevents teleporting.

Not at all - Avenues make for great one way streets when you don't want traffic crossing the lanes for added efficiency.
