Useful to set bugets above 100%?
Hello,

Does anyone routinely set the budgets of some or all items to above 100%? Are there benefits or when that is useful? I remember waaaay back that in SimCity 2000 you get into trouble for setting some things above 100%...... What happens in Cities: Skylines?

Like alien hybrid said, I keep it at 150% for buses. But for most of the others the only reason I can think of that you would ever have to set it above 100% is if you really didn't want to add any more of those buildings in your city, maybe because you have a look you are going for or something. As far as I can tell it would never be cost effective as oppose to simply building another of the appropriate building.

I use it as a stop gap measure if I need to amass some funds to make an infrastructure investment.

Good idea, but bus stop are SO crowded, too. But would the buses clog up the roads? Do you have a strategy to prevent bus congestion?

yes i create a raised bus only street and connect to neighborhoods and metro stations via pedestrian paths, that way they walk to and from bus stops but cars do not use the street because it doesn't connect that way

Makes sense, thanks for the tip! Sounds like lots of pre-planning, and pre-saving of space is required.

Mass Transit, Garbage, Health Care and Fire Department, Parks - usually 130%-150%.

Education, 100%, Electricity/Water 100%/110%, Police 70%-100%.

Mass Transit 120%.

Sometimes increasing electric or water budget is better than another pipe or water tower.
The top things are top. Sometimes, I click individual hospitals to 100% and corpse burners to 150% always. Garbage Burners 150% always, and landfill 80%.

Most of the time my budgets are flexible, I never lower anything but Education, Mass Transit, and Police below 100%.

actually its funny you say that because it was something i figured out well after the city was relatively large and traffic was a problem, my raised bus roads actually run on the outskirts of the city basically connecting the north to the south and back up the other side to the airport, metro lines bring people to and from the bus stops to the central parts of the city.

the next city i start i will keep in mind that i'll want raised bus lanes to criss cross through the city, but we'll see how that turns out lol

I use greater than 100% in a few cases. Use >100% when I cannot afford a purchase at the moment it becomes needed. Use >100% when close to a milestone which offers a better option than I'm currently using. And lastly use >100% when I want to get more out of service without plopping additonal buildings... namely mass transit buildings. The first two cases apply primarily to new or relatively young cities.
