Public Transportation usage
How can I know if cims are using my public tranpostation massively?

I mean I wanna know if they are being efficient or not...I noticed Metro is always the one being used most, then bus, after it, trains and finally plains and boats...But average how much cims should use it?

My city has 250k population, 8k people are using metro, 1200 using bus, 46 ar eusing trains and 15 boats and 38 plain...but i have no clue if this are good numbers or not.

I have about 10% of my population using metro and bus in my current city and it seems to reduce traffic a lot so I consider it sufficient. Really, its just getting enough on public transportation to minimize traffic jams. I think there are a few that have gotten 100% public transport though, or close to it.

considering the small amount of people using the harbour and airport, you are better of financially if you not build them. The amount of tourists are so little you dont really need to put any effort in that department. Perhaps this will get fixed in the future, but right now you arent very rewarded for tourism. Unless you want an achievment perhaps. Weigh the upkeep cost against the amount of people using the various services. subways works. buses kinda does, but they can clog up the traffic.

and trains? what u think of trains?
Ramses II Apr 7, 2015 @ 6:05am
IMHO, Trains, Planes and Ships are not recommended. The are not bringing enough tourists or cims in and out.

Your % seems just on the low end of what CO stated to be efficient enough to help a lot of traffic (5% to 10% of your pop or so if I recall well).
Compared to my 110k city, I have a far better bus ratio, but knowing the map you play on ;-p it might not be the best idea to get better bus going into roads.

Damn I struggle with trains as well. Some seems to make it work wonders. Is that because it's the best way to get from A -> B and it's an unserviced area.

But I guess depending of the map (river crossing unable to be done by metro at some places for instance) you can get better trains results... and we serve areas well enough with metro ? rendering trains not that efficient ?

And why do I feel a new guide is poking it's nose on the corner lol

i find busses usually clog up my city -- make 1 route and 50 busses clog the line.

I usually reduce funding on buses to 50%, and max out metro funding.. this way busses *almost* squeak out a profit..

I can get up to 20% with some good coverage but I never manage to get higher than that and I consider myself a pretty decent city builder.
From memory and my latest city.
Pop:200k
Bus:12k(100 lines at least)
Metro:10k.(probably around 80lines)
all others, not worth remembering :)

Due to me never having the space I want, I tend to only use bus for my loops/feeder lines and metro for all long runs. No passenger trains, just cargo.

I also use airports/harbours to bring in tourists but it's not something I rely on for profit.

Efficiency isn't my problem. You can deduct the efficiency from the profit (or loss) you make. If a Bus is running empty, it will lay heavy on your budged and so your budget panel will reflect the efficiency that way. You can also just look at a bus and see it running empty, so it's not very efficient if it is empty. Check busses along the route for that.

The real problem is effectiveness. I am not sure that I am making right choices considering placement of bus stops and design of routes in regard to what I am trying to achieve. My goal would be to reduce car trafic, but there is no effective way to monitor the volume of car traffic expect installing the no-despawn mod and just look at it.
So when I see a hundred people running into my subway station, can I deduct that those people would have taken a car instead?

To simplify: We would need to see where the most people are going to and from and when clicking on a car we should not only see its route (with the traffic tool mod) but also the lenght of its route and the possible bus and metro routes and their length. Then we could check out many cars and see where we need to improve on our public transport infrastructure.

tl;dr: No way, José!

Dumb question @Maestro as I just realize I tend to do that pretty often... Dou you actually *create* lines between your Pax train stations ??? I forget it in my game mechanics as cargo train needs no lines, and still train lines will have pax without you creating lines... as those are tourists maybe ?

I tried to open a thread, about this, but it didn't worked, so now i'll try to keep this alive.. I think i've created 5 cities, since i bought it.. But i figured traffic is still a big issue for me. Unless you use the unlock tiles mod.. The problem is that i don't want to do it.. The thing is that you can't have more than 6 lanes roads.. So, soon or later you'll face traffic problems.. No doubt about it..
Now i'm focused on public transportation.. And this is so pissing me off.. In a city of 40k! I can only reach at max 6k passengers! Are we serious? I just reworked all the ****ing transports:
busses feeding metro stations, and metro stations feeding train stations.. No way to do better than 6k.. Any tips? Please help!!
Jinor Apr 7, 2015 @ 2:35pm
2 1 way 6 lanes roads make 12 lanes.....

I guess no one else is into transports like me.. Except for some big ass city who actually don't need pub transports, cause there's a lot of rooms for streets, roundabouts, and various ♥♥♥♥...

Wow, just wait a sec... Did you notice that I told to Maestro that with near 5% he was on the lowend of what CO expect to be a decent mass transport ??? you have 40k city and 6k peeps using public transport ??? which is a more than decent ratio for that matter.

and bigger city means better mass transport or else... big mess around...
But solving your traffic issues with how you design things is what you need. You won't ever solve that part with public transport (or maybe only if you design a city with offices and commercial zones placed at correct locations ?) As soon as are using industries you'll need better roads systems anyway.

For the Public transport it seems you have figured it enough due to your results
