Can A Lake Be Pumped DRY?
I'm curious. I could pump my water from a lake, if it does not run out like you would imagine. currently, I'm pumping water, and it's starting to create its own current which is drawing my polluted wated upstream. I will have to move my system soon, and hence we have my question.

build a dam ton block the dirty water

Depending on the map as they might contain a water start here thing

It is possible to pump some lakes dry, it depends on the lake though and whether or not it is part of the sea, (even if it is disconnected from the sea, it can still be part of it). Or if it is fed by one or more water sources. You just need to pump out more water than flows in!

If you block it off with dams then yes, it can be emptied. proof: http://imgur.com/a/rB1wU (not my post)

You need to open up the map in map editor mode and see where the water sources are placed. If the lake has a water source in it then you can't drain it, or overfill it for that matter.

Wow!! Thanks for all the responses, and so quick! I'll check the map editor and see if it has a source feeding it. The dam will wait, but it is also nice to know it would block upflow (makes sense XD)

Be sure to turn the dam off if you want to use it as a wall.

This is superb!

But to simply answer the question, no if there is a water spawner in it, yes if there isnt.

I stuck four pumps on the edge of a massive lake and was amazed that it immediately receded so they were high and dry. So I'd say lakes are at least as drainable as rivers, probably more so.

To test a lake for "natural spring" or "soon to be dried up" plant a row of trees RIGHT AT THE SHORELINE and put only one pump in there. I have had 6 pumps working on a lake for an 50,60,70, and then 80k city for a long time with no problem. Other lakes? Immediately drained.

You do realize this is almost a 4-year old thread? lol

Short answer is a lake without a waterspawner or river flowing into it, will dry up.

Lake with water spawner will keep it from running dry (or overflow, as spawner keeps the water level). It wsill only top off equal to the power of the water spawner, so it depends on the number (capacity) of the pumps.
