Show your networks!
Hey I wanna see your bus/metro/train networks. Are you coming up with clever network designs? What works best, and what doesn't.

Bus is useless, just build metro for everything.

I find it depends on the map spaces you have. I have a few island peninsulas that metro/rail networks can't cross because the waters edge is too steep. Currently I have one single inner city transport system (metro/bus) and then the suburban peninsulas have a rail connection to the inner city.

Nobody seems to be complaining yet, aside from the lazy beggars that wont travel for work :)

Here are networks in my new city:

50k pop or so.
I experimented a bit with giving buses a dedicated road so that they can move quickly at all times.

I'd be curious to see your traffic congestion overlay, you have an interesting layout.

Added them in. There's some traffic on the main roads because of industry to commercial, and one 6 way that joins the 2 cities together. But I've plans for that. To fix the main roads I need cargo stations next to commercial, the 6 way is only using one lane it seems so I'll probably be making it into a double highway. I need more highways overall.

You seem to have struck on something with 3 spur junctions. I had to redo an entire 2x2 because of crossroads. Foolish space management over transport priorities.

I have been experimenting with 2 way roads only ,no stop signs in a city of 35k . Traffic hasnt backed up yet too bad. I just make sure there are enough ways in and out. My metro is a life saver and my bus line is so so.

This is a good example of my city http://postimg.org/image/g2voj6eyp/

I have made my city into islands only connected to the rest of the city by highway. No small roads between the different areas. And all areas have a good and small bus system leading them to a subway, which again leads them to a main train system that connects all districts. Not many cars on the map.

3 bus lines and 1 metro line, I've saved on at least 1500 cars on the road in a city of 38k citizens. Not much of an impact, but one car less on the road equals to one less problem i gotta deal with.

Nice work :)

This is Darwinia City that I built in 3 days on one of the Drakedge's challenge maps.
Here's the transport overlay,

Nope, definitely not useless, in fact I need more buslines in this one.

Interresting. Are those a few very long metro lines or several shorter ones? @grapplehoeker
