50k pop or so.
I experimented a bit with giving buses a dedicated road so that they can move quickly at all times.
I have made my city into islands only connected to the rest of the city by highway. No small roads between the different areas. And all areas have a good and small bus system leading them to a subway, which again leads them to a main train system that connects all districts. Not many cars on the map.
