how to play offline

i was told this game is able to run even when offline. however that isn't the case since i couldn't start the game at all.

i go to my steamapp > cities skyline > cities.exe

there's little process but nothing happen after that, the game doesn't start at all. am i missing something? i also check inside task manager but cities.exe aren't there

so does anybody have this problem too?

oh and also, when do we insert the cd key, the first time i ran the game it doesn't even prompt me to insert the cd key. i do have the cd key, since i bought it on steam but like i said, it never prompt me to insert the cd key. is this the reason i can't play offline?

I was under the impression that the CD key you got is likely to be used to register to your account over on the ParadoxPlaza website to show that you are an owner of the game on their own forums. At least that is what I read about that recently.

Did you try putting Steam in Offline mode before actually going offline with your internet? I seem to remember (not sure if it's changed since doing it) that the first time that I put Steam into Offline mode, it had to do some kind of updates for my games to allow me to play my games offline. It hasn't prompted me to download anything since then and just tells me to restart steam when I make Steam go offline or back online again.

the thing is, if there is no internet connection at all, i can't even login steam in the first place

First, yeah, CD-Key is only for registering the game with Paradox, and currently there is no need (though that may change). For their Europia IV forums, a lot of subforums (like the modding one!!!) are hidden unless you are registered. They haven't done that for the Cities forums (yet), but maybe they are just waiting for the new forum s/w upgrade to be complete. *shrug*

For offline, are you using mods? Currently, workshop will only work with the beta Steam Client in offline mode. If not that, then what City Builder guy said.

uhh actually no, i don't use mod, i just want to play the game offline, my house is using wifi and my sister/parent would turn off the wifi around 12am to 1am. SO, whey i woke up early in the morning, i'm very lazy to get out of my room to turn it on and just want to play offline in my room.

Isn't that how offline game supposed to be, just launch it even without internet connection...

I've been running it with steam in offline mode and haven't had any issues.

umm no its not about steam offline mode, its when i turn on my pc without internet connection, and without internet connection you can't login into steam in the first place which means you can't switch into to offline mode

you should still be able to restart steam into offline mode even without an internet connection. works for me. try logging in anyway, i believe it prompts you to restart in offline mode.

It tells me that this game cannot be run in offline.

Just log in normally and click the button (pops up at bottom right of little thing I think) that says OFFLINE MODE. I'll be getting this game soon I've got SimCity but this looks like it has much better graphics and there is a bigger map.
