Overhead Railway
Hey guys,

at first i want to say, that i love your game. Keep up the good work :-)

What about with an "overhead railway"? In my hometown there exist one of these traffics.... exactly the oldest one in the world. I think it would has a few nice features for the game, maybe not a huge new game-experience but a few one :-)

- it can drive over a street in a more interesting way than a normal railway (in my opinion):

- it can be build specifically over a river like on the most parts in my town or for example in combination with a highway like on the second link below:

- the new planned train for our town would be looks nice together with the busses and trains in your game:

I mean, there are many differnt type of that in other towns from all over the world, if you take a look in the internet. I just think the technic itself could be interesting for the game :-)

Best greetings

Where is that? Looks very cool and certainly more interesting than a normal elevated railway.

COOOL. I want this!

Hey :-) I'm glad, that you like the idea^^ The railway stands in Wuppertal, Germany and is called "Schwebebahn" <- Just the german word for "overhead railway" :P . The "little brother" of it (was opened two months later [may 1901]) stands in Dresden:

Another example, the "Sky Train" in Düsseldorf (Airport):

Or in Mannheim (very interesting, too, if you take a look at the structure. But it doesn't exist nomore):

You see, that all examples above were built in different ways to use it in the end like in Wuppertal. I think it would be looks very nice between the full streets, skyscrapers and trains in our towns. Use stations over the street, build it under bridges, over bridges...

And a cool thing is, if you build just a line from A to B in your town (like the real one) you don't need a rail switch in front of the station like the trains have. It changes the side in a really sharp curve on both ends:

The game engine show us, that the tools for building streets and railways works very well. So, why not using for a Schwebebahn/Overhead railway? :-)

There were mono rails in Cities in Motion2, all they need to do is turn them upside down!

This reminds me of the similar thing used in the film 'Fahrenheit 451', where they used a French version called SAFAGE http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAFEGE
Haterick Mar 29, 2015 @ 12:06pm
Yes, you're right. In a easy explaination, they have to it upside down :-)

The SAFAGE, that you've seen is the same thing as in the link above from Düsseldorf. And as you can see on wikipedia behind your link, there are more like this in france and japan.

I've taken a look in the internet for Cities in Motion 2 to see what exactly you mean..... and after a few pictures, i found this:

http://www.google.de/imgres?imgurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcimexchange.com%2Fpromo%2Fschwebebahn%2F08.jpg&imgrefurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cimexchange.com%2Fpage%2Findex.html%2F_%2Farticles%2Fnew-transport-mode-r96&h=675&w=1200&tbnid=B_mceqvWfARNUM%3A&zoom=1&docid=7CazgoTPNj3sVM&ei=wUoYVZfcOYzZU6GahJgB&tbm=isch&iact=rc&uact=3&dur=209&page=1&start=0&ndsp=34&ved=0CGMQrQMwFA

That shows, that it works^^

I'd be happy to see a level 1 metro like in Berlin or Hamburg which could be build on top of a road.
Mansen Mar 29, 2015 @ 1:26pm
Above ground metros are quite common - I hope we'll see sub to above ground connections soon. Great alternative in urban areas.
Waggy Mar 29, 2015 @ 1:51pm
They had these in some of the Rollercoaster Tycoon games.
Gliesse Mar 29, 2015 @ 2:12pm
I like this very much, it would also be quite awesome if made a bridge with a road and train rail underneath it.
poke_ravi Mar 29, 2015 @ 2:14pm
They have these in NYC.
simonmd Mar 29, 2015 @ 4:03pm
That Cities in Motion mod looks awsome, makes me want to go and play it again!
Alexander Morgan Mar 29, 2015 @ 4:17pm
I rode on one of these in Wuppental. They go over a river with a grassy bank. They're really cute and have a steampunkish design. Super idea for a future expansion to have these in the game.
