Any tip to get the 15k elementary school students unlock? (Arc de Triomphe)
Hi !!

I'm trying to get 15k students in my elementary schools, to unlock the Arc de Triomphe landmark, but it seems impossible to do. I have a city of close to 90k, maximum I ever been was about 6k students, but they all get educated after a while and leave the school for a high school or univeristy.

Is there something I'm missing?

I just assumed you need met population. Assuming on average 8% of your pop are children you need 190k poo. Achievable.

i got this way before 190k pop, also i think it was only 5k children? you can dezone residential to kick all them smart people out, then rezone to get morons back. make sure you have enough elementary schools to house them 5000 kids

There mat be another reward or achievement at 4k elementary students. THE OP is asking about the one for 15k. I know it as I 2 as just looking at it last night.

yes aquarium, just checked. i unlocked the arc de triumph as well, never got 190k pop, never had to try for it. my advice is still valid. rezone residential, or go for a huge expansion.

Shut down all your schools, wait until you have 15 k children in need of schooling, Turn them back on. Be aware, this may cause income issues, down grading of buildings and a few other issues.

Wow, this will be complicated to achieve. There must be an easier way.

Well, if someone have the save to do that, then yes, there is. Otherwise, I don't think so.

I guess you can build a city, and wait until you have a lot of pop to build elementary school, that would works to I suppose.

I did it in a 150k city. I turned off all services including Eden so ppl start leaving the city. When population dropped to 70k I turned on all services (+legalize and hi-tech). City started to grow very fast. Soon population reached 150k again but it was mostly adults with kids (had 15% of kids instead of 5-8%).

The tricky part is to turn on elementary one by one slowly so houses could upgrade but keep high elementary demand: only 30-40% could get to school. And when there'll be 17-18k of potential listeners turn on all schools. Education boost boosts listeners number for a very short time and then drops down the number of listeners very fast.

I'm not sure but probably I have a save, gonna check it at night. However, any 150k city with working infrastructure should be ok for this. Just force ppl to leave and repopulate city again. Keep elementary demand at 70-60% till 17-18k of potential listeners. Then rush for achievement.

I guess that's how I'll do it. It's the only thing left to do in the game I've unlocked everything you can imagine, all achievements done (besides the unlock all buildings obviously), so I need to do this. I got everything else «extra vanilla«, on Diamond Coast map, and I want those 15k kids.
Right now, the city produces 7000-8500 kids on a constant basis, I'm at 130k pop and I can't grow much, all 9 tiles are 90% used.

[UPDATE]

I guess it was easier than I thought.

I had a healthy 130k city, with hadron building on and no existing school structures built.
I paused the game.
I turned off Hadron, built about 20 elementary schools.
Increased low and high residential tax to 15%.
Unpaused the game and let it run.
It went down to 30k citizens in about 2 months.
I paused the game.
Lowered taxes to normal rate, which was 11%, all 20 schools on, Hadron still off.
Unpaused the game. In 9 months time, at 85k citizens, finally got the 15k kids.

All achievements, all buildings unlocked, everything done. Vanilla style. 0 mod ever. My third city since March 10th. I'm happy :)

I just did pretty much exactly what you said and got it. Thanks dude! If anyone else tries this make sure you have a bit of money first just to act as a buffer cause you will lose quite a bit doing this.

By my math, with each school accommodating 300 students, that's 50 elementary schools required to meet the goal. :-o I just did it, though, pretty much by Abalister's recipe.I had $7.7 million when I started driving everyone away, and I've got $3.5 million now (and still in the red). Population has bounced back from 28K to 106K, and it's still climbing by nearly 1,000 residents a week. Just gotta get those 30,000 industrial zones, and I can retire this crazy town.

I'm currently working on my own map High Springs in vanilla.

It's going great! I am enjoying this map far more than I expected and that isn't just because I made it myself.
One of the goals for this map is to finally nail the Arc de Triomphe. I know I can do it via one of the methods mentioned above but that will take time and I'm spending a lot of it on the city design.
So I thought of another way to speed it up and get it quickly and out of the way so I can focus...
Abalister please upload your save game so I can use it to score the achievement in one go haha!

Haha, I don't think I have that city anymore. Like Stephen is about to do, I did the same, I retired the crazy city once I unlocked everything with it, vanilla style. I didn't keep the save file.

I'm glad that a lot of people did exactly the steps and it worked for them too. :))
Stephen Apr 22, 2015 @ 11:58am
That student spike levels off quickly. I'm down to fewer than 8,000 elementary school students, now, and I bet Abalister's was pretty much the same. I do have a some old saves that might help, though. ...
