Mixing Commercial with Industrial or Residential
Do you do it?

How bad is the noise pollution stat? If I just have a business on the corner of a square with houses on either side, will the people hate it, or is it just when you plop down a lot of business together that the noise pollution becomes a problem?

I'm guessing some business in residential is beneficial because the people don't have to go far to shop, and wondering if commercial in Industrial is beneficial (will workers stop at the stores there on the way home?).

What I do is make a sort of "main street" down the center of my city, where all the shops are. Coupled with the streets with trees it limits the noise pollution to adjacent housing, and all other housing are completely unaffected. As for industry I keep that in an entirely seperate area (square) connected by highway. They produce a lot of polution which is nothing you can do about.

industrial and commercial mixing is fine, offices and commercial mixing isn't. Over time the noise polution will kill your offices.

Like wise industrial and commercial don't go in residential, noise pollution will kill your residents. Offices however seem to be fine as they don't produce much noise polution, and the bit they do can be mitigated with tree lined roads

i typically put my industrial right next to comm which is right next to res, the ind doesnt have to travel far to drop off goods, and the people living right next to com are slightly unhappy but they still live there and pay taxes so its cool, it may however limit upgrade possiblities down the road but im not sure

Yup it will. Initially it's not a HUGE issue, but as they go through the ranks it gets more and more of an issue. If you ignore it for to long you'll get a mass death wave as people start keeling over from noise polution.

I've learnt to kee my ind and comm on the other side of the highway from my residential

Thanks for the replies.

Any info on if having just a few commercial mixed with residential is beneficial by making the Cims have less distance to travel to buy stuff, or is the noise pollution not worth their less-far travelling?

I always use Com as a "wall" between Industry and Residential. I'm only at 50k but sofar i've yet to recieve any complaints. Decorated streets help alot to keep the noise down.

I have industry in the middle of my city, strategically placed so no one gets sick.

I mix a lot of commercial into residential areas.

When the edge of a residential area is near a highway or train tracks, I'll run a line of commercial there.

Also usually end up replacing residential with commercial next to schools and parks. The seniors complain about their land value when they live right beside the park, so I rezone their houses as commercial, and that teaches the next house down the street not to complain.
