Plan ahead: block size question
Hello people!

I just bought Cities Skyline, since I played a little bit the last simcity and kinda enjoyed it. Now, I have a question about block size (when building "square" cities) and road upgrades.

I found it pretty hard in Simcity to build cities with high density: the problem was that assuming that a skyscraper occupied a 4x4 slot, since I added parks and stuff to a 8x8 block I couldn't have a "full skyscrapers" block. A skyscraper could be built, but other building on the same block didn't have enough space. I hope you can understand what I'm talking about, even if I'm not able to explain it in a very straight forward way :D

Anyway, I really appreciate the fact that in CS you can upgrade the size of roads without having to demolish them, but this leads me to some question. When you're building roads you can see gridlines for a 8x8 block, that can lead to have four 4x4 building (assuming that's the maximum). When upgrading roads, since roads are bigger, the block will be reduced to a 6x6 block. How is this stuff handled? There would still be space for a 4x4 building, but how will be the slack space occupied? Will it still be efficien (i.e. high density buildings) or it's better to build 10x10 blocks and then upgrade roads?

Thanks in advance to anyone that will answer :)

If you plan to upgrade them then yeah I'd do 10x10.

I really only build dense for my downtown and a few of the swank burbs. I do my spacing for the dense areas 13 squares between medium roads. This allows my full street to be a line of buildings. I place the parks at the ends of each block in stead of on the line of buildings.

Sometimes depending on my plans, I will do 14 squares, and pull a path down the middle and add a few more parks. * I use paths mod that can set parks on it*.

I think that is somewhat what you were asking.

The way I did it is 16x8 with all two lanes roads with trees. There's ramp access in/out of the highway at different places to spread traffic and the only place that has an inner wider road system is my industrial corner. So far I got about 70k citizens in low/med/high density buildings with very little traffic issues. Though I do have a strong public transport system. I,ll try posting screenshots in a few moments to show you what I did.
