I also reduced the train budget so that fewer trains spawn.
And the next city I start, I'll probably use the map editor so that the intersections outside of city limits are more functional.
Outside tracks is buggy atm. You can check previous thread about this.

Helps a lot in my opinion.
So far ive put minimum funds into trains to lower the spawns.
Broke off from the external traintracks (because they keep sending all kinds of trains to the wrong stations).
Seem to work a little better now.

I tried having interesting buffers and connections to other tracks and shared buffers, but it was all just inferior to forking as soon as possible and running a unique track to a cargo station.
