Black or black and white screen on startup?

So I just bought this game earlier today and decided to start it up and it gave me a key so I copied it to the clipboard but once it launced it first had a black screen and I could only see the cursor and FPS. I decided to close the program and try again, however I did the same thing showing a black and white screen in a slanted fashion and I could see the cursor again but nothing happened.

I'm running on a Macbook Pro (15-inch, Early 2011) on version 10.10.2 of Yosemite.

I have similiar problem today. Earlier could play the game but today (after patch?) I can't even start the game, I just get grey or black screen and nothing happens for while and after few minutes game just dies off.

From task manager I can see that game is not doing anything, CPU usage is minimal and quite soon after starting it goes into "not responding" mode.

I got Macbook Pro with OSX 10.9.5.

And now it seems to be working again? Strange.

When I was looking at system requirements I noticed it said intel graphics wont work and it was faded so I didnt see it when I was going through the page, so that could be the issue.

So this leads to another thing even though I shouldnt be asking on Steam but is it possible to switch my intel integrated graphics to a nvidia one?

Go to steam -> Cities: Skylines -> right click on Properties -> Set Launch Options
-> Type -popupwindow -> Close and Start the Game
