Having the same problem, but I read here on the forum that it´s got something to do with your pc´s spec and your population, the higher you get the more it´s likely the speed will bug out when your pc is not up to par for it. If someone could confirm or deny this I´d appreciate it.

Its "standard" simulation behavior. I already observed this behavior since SC4. The larger your city, more custom content, will slow down your simulation, sometime significantly.

So... yeah... it's "normal"

thank you very much guys! i hope they'll fix it with a patch

That's not fixable, yes there's may be some optimisation, but it is like this, your pc couldn't catch up, so game just slows down to let him. If there's more population, more cars, more anything, there's much more to calculate = slower speed.

I have same, and I know why, so it's not a bug.

And you're lucky, I got normal speed on 40k XD

Buy a better computer, then it might work.

i have 8 Gb RAM and a Nvidia Geforce 660... and 110000 population in game, if they can't fix it, maybe they can optimize it. my PC run Shogun 2 Total War with very high settings without lag, and i can speed up battles X2 or X3; probably is a "amount of information to manage problem"

In a few years time we will all have PC's which will be able to run this smooth 60fps max settings 1,000,000+ pop on 25 sqaure tiles.

I look forward to those days. XD

And even if you have 200 GB RAM and 8 NVIDIA MEGA UBER TITAN graphic cards.
Limiting factor is the CPU.
Excrucian Mar 21, 2015 @ 6:17am
Yeah it's your cpu, I have the same issue. Everything in my comps is overkill for the game but my cpu is getting old and is just slightly above the recommended. So even if everything runs smooth if I try going faster than 1x it gets stuttery and barely faster.

So now I'm checking to see to upgrade my rig. Because of a city sim made by 13 people. XD

i have Intel Core i5 4440 CPU 3.10 GHz, the game raccomanded 3.20 GHz CPU. i think they have to optimize the game, just a little

It's true, the game is extremely CPU demanding.
I have some high end sh.it, can't remember the exact name if it. It was the 2nd fastest i5 like 10 months ago, and even I noticed a small drop in the highest simulation speed at about 30k people - after I placed a subway system. Dunno about buses, but subways seem to increase the demand for processing power a lot.
But it's true, with future high end CPUs in like 2 years already, things should be way smoother.

Oh, I didn'T expect an i5 to struggle O.o

Not going to happen with the current slow progress of cpu technology.. They have pretty much hit a brickwall and the simulation/traffic is done by just one core as such simulation does not really easily scale up to multicore.

Our only hope is that they find a new way to produce cpus so they are faster per core. The last generations have only had a slight improvement per core.

You make a good point. I still can't think of any game from, for example the 2006 era, which my pc (and even my notebook) can't absolutely destroy today.

It's not about struggling - It's about upper engine limitations.
