Can't launch the game on a Mac? I have a NEW solution!
After being unable to play this game on a Mac since launch (and trying ALL of the advice people have given me), I am happy to report I have a solution!

First of all, if you have a Mac and CAN launch the game (But have graphics issues), this solution is NOT FOR YOU. Try the following instead:

- Turn off the steam overlay (Right click or option-click the game in your library, go to properties, under the general tab uncheck "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game")
- Verify your game cache (Right click or option-click the game in your library, go to properties, under the "Local Files" tab click "Verify Integrity of Game Cache")

OK, now for the solution for people who CANNOT LAUNCH the game. This means you try to play, and it seemingly does nothing, whether launched from Steam or the Finder. I've written about the problem in this thread: http://steamcommunity.com/app/255710/discussions/0/610574827759581394/

In my case, I was missing a file in my Game folder called steam_appid.txt

On my computer, the game folder is "~/USERNAME/Library/Application Supprt/Steam/SteamApps/common/Cities_Skylines/"

Create a new text file (With textedit or other app), and simply put this in the file: "255710" (NO QUOTES). YES, THAT'S ALL. 6 DIGITS

Save the file as "steam_appid.txt" and place it in your game's folder.

For funsies, quit Steam and re-launch.

Try to play the game now. I was shocked when this worked, and I hope it works for some others out there!

Right click on Cities:Skylines in your game library, then go to properties. Go to the tab that says "Local Files", and click the "Browse Local Files" button. This will take you right to the folder. Add the file as described above and give it a try!

Oh, also, sometimes the "Library" folder is hidden. See here: http://osxdaily.com/2013/10/28/show-user-library-folder-os-x-mavericks/

OMG. This actually worked!

Launching from Steam still didn't work.

However, I was able to browse the game folder and double click Cities icon, and it WORKED!

Thank you!

well nothing works for me :steamsad:
tried disabling overlay
tried creating the text file
but I still can't launch it, neither from steam nor game folder
it's really pissing me off, because it used to work- I was already able to play it back when I purchased it a few months ago, but since then it won't work
trying to launch via steam a message next to the game says "running" and then "syncing" for 2 seconds tops and then nothing happens.
(steam is up to date)

I really wonder why Cities stopped working in the first place - but gladly this troubleshoot worked for me. So you'll be happy to know your solution is still helping in Apr. 2017 - thank you for it!

THX SO MUCH Steam is the only gaming app that i use most of the time so this helped a bunch when it comes to sanity (not literally)

Had the same situation, created the text file and it worked via the icon. Still won't launch through steam, but at least it's playable.
