If you zone in a logical manor, ie follow the RCI meter. Let the city settle, the game does a great job of guiding you. If you do out of control zoning, your bar is going to be useless to you.

Sometimes the best thing to do is wait for the city to catch up with your unasked for zoning.

Just keep building, this game is based on balance, not enought industry build more homes, not enough homes build more industry....

Not always. Demand sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Have had cities with no growth despite building. Industry is in demand, but not enough employees, commercial in demand, but not enough employees or goods. Meanwhile 0 residential demand. Meanwhile in other cities I have constant residential demand, 0 commercial demand, medium industrial demand, population steadily increases over time, but industry just doesn't grow or sustain itself. More roads or services doesn't always solve the problem either.

The RCI indicator doesn't always tell you what is wrong, or for that matter what is needed. Generally, nothing tells you what is causing the stagnation in growth unless you have done something completely wrong somewhere. Game still needs some patching.

It has to be said that this is a hell of alot better since the patch. My city was stagnating at about 150k 2 days ago, now its over 170k and still growing! Before the patch, the RCI bars were pretty much blank and I had to rewally stimulate growth with new roads, services, etc. Now, I just do what the RCI bars tell me too.

I keep making massive job or worker shortages every time I zone everywhere. Then there's not enough workers and there is no residential demand.

I think you mean TOO MUCH industry build more homes and TOO MANY homes build more industry.
