I found that out the other day. Too many pumps in one spot will deplete rivers.
Won't make a difference since the same amount of water would be pumped out of the river and into the pipes.
You have two solutions, OP. You can either...
... Move enough water pumps away from that river into the Ocean or another River.
... No additional bodies of water? Replace them with water towers. They are twice as expensive but have the benefit of NOT draining away water from the river. (Put them away from ground pollution)
Every river is different - Depending on the size and number of river spawn objects there are placed on the map, it can support few or many water pumps.
Thats why i use a mix of both since 2-3 pumps with few water towers. But the again i builded a freaking freaking dam and never did the water level changed in the rives so dunno about that.
