16,000 people then microbial flora out of nowhere?
Hey guys,

Was playing along with my city and not long after I hit 16,000 citizens my water supply gets infected.. not sure why now, restarted the map to see if I had done something to cause it, first time it was because I placed the treatment plant upstream.. oops my bad. 2nd time I placed it downstream farther than the sewage outlet.. 3rd time I did nothing. All 3 times my citizens get sick, die and I go from 16,000 to 3,000 and -30k a week profit lol.

I havent tried moving the pipes farther from the industrial zone, but I would have thought that it would have affected the water supply long ago if it was a problem. Any ideas? other than just build a lot of water towers?

Make sure you go to water pumps asap. And make sure they are upstream from your waste outlet.

I replaced my sewage pipes with treatment plants as they do the same thing. All I gotta say is put the water pumps upstream. If that doesn't work put them offline and build a ton of water towers.

Yeah the only thing I can say is that since it was my 2nd ever game, I placed them semi-close.. and only once I hit that milestone it seems to happen.. so the drainage pipes might get a larger radius and overlapped my intakes is the only idea I have at this point?

Just make sure you haven't placed a tower by mistake, seen a lot of people doing that =p

I might have had a water tower too.. but it had been there since I had 8,000 people..

check your water tower and make sure they are not on polluted ground aka anywhere near industruial. All it takes is one water tower in a bad spot and everyone gets sick.

Ahhh that might have been it although I thought it was far enough from the industrial zone, thanks bro!

no problem man, it happend to me and I went nuts trying to figure it out just to find out I had one lone water tower too close to dirty industry.

I noticed in my city that Water Pumps can actually change the flow of the river. i.e. I had a bunch of water pumps *well* upstream in my city, with all of my treatment plants well downstream (right on the edge of the 5x5 map)... and after a while I started getting sick people. And noticed that pollution was travelling "upstream". After opening the Water tab I saw that the flow of the river had definitely changed. The flow was the same leading up to the Pumps but once the pumps were reached the current was going "upstream".

My solution? Remove all of my Water Pumps and replace them with Water Towers (making sure not to place the Towers on polluted land of course). Once I did that the current slowly righted itself and returned to flowing downstream. No more sick people.

tl;dr: Consider replacing all of your Water Pumps with Water Towers because the current can change.

you could have buildt a dam inbetween.

You should just put all your sewage outlets (including treatment plants) at the end of the stream and your pumps at the start.

But you also have to add that citizens will get sick from the pollution your industry or buildings cause when you place them next to residential (use the pollution overlay to check that).

And your citizens get also sick if there is too much noise at their house(use the noise pollution overlay to check that).

And your citizens get sick if there are no or not enough medical facilities or the ambulances cant get fast enough to the buildings because of traffic.

Place a hydro dam between the two and create a barrier. Expensive but why not.

I built a Dam to make a road...wanted something that looked good instead of another boring bridge. Had no use for the power at the time =p

hahaha you reminded me of the mess around session I had the other day, built 5 dams in a row and forced all the water on to the flats, then built sewage outflows galore and destroyed the dams, took about 15 minutes and the entire flat was covered in sh*t. Hilariousness! Entire population of 8000 toast in under 4 mins. I had to...

There was no dam. I watched how the flow changed back to normal again once I removed the pumps. They definitely do have an effect on the water flow.
