Not enough raw materials
My ore industry is suffering from this. I have more than enough ore according to my resource listing, but outside of zoning new areas how can I solve this.

I've set my ore producing industrial zone to specialize in ore production but I can't dictate if the business that starts up is mining it or otherwise. Did I miss something here?

I may have misread, but to be sure, resources are actually located kinda like clouds on the map. You can view the locations from the info maps ( I icon in the top left). Your ore industry zone needs to ontop of the ore deposit to use it. I believe when it comes to non-renuables like ore and oil, you can deplete the amounts in a given deposit.

Yes I'm right on top, but once an area is built up its hard to see the resource underneath it. You can only see the traces of the resource around the edges on the unzoned/unbuilt parts of the map.

I just have to assume it is still there as the buildings are appropriately colored when I go into resource view. What do you suggest I do? demolish the area and check my resource maps again?

I think your out of the resouces beneath. You can demolish the buildings (and dezone that area). Then look at your resource map (top left) to see if it's white or blue under. It's probably white which means it's out.

thanks for the advice, I will try it out next time I get a chance to play the game.

Yeah, only farms and forests are renewable. Oil and ore gets depleted with time.

It seems the oil and ore are depleted really fast. In fact, I wonder if it's worth it to bother with it.

Still, if you have proper connections, you still should be able to import those goods for your industry to keep it anyway... I have a zone with oil inustry, a cargo train facility right next to it, and even if no more oil is there, all is still working fine.

You might just rework your outside connection to make sure you can be effective at importing lage amounts of goods maybe?

How do I renew farms and forests? or is it passive?

Alsp

What happens when my regular industry gets the same message. Seens like I'm not importing enough?

I have 2 harbours and 3 rail connections.

Forestry passively renews since they will create tree farms. I'm not 100% certain on Farming yet. I'm expecting to have a more informed answer to this in a couple days when I finally expand my grid map into the fertile land area (custom map with solid Ore, Oil, Fertile land painted down). I think Fertile land is "used up" over time, but at a slower rate than Ore and Oil.

When regular industry is getting the message of not having materials, it means you need to provide a way for them import materials (cargo train, cargo harbor, good access to the incoming and outgoing highways). If they are still having trouble, I would say check your lines to see if they're clogged. If not, it may be one of the adjustments CO/Paradox needs to make.

Yea It's a weird issue as I have not seen it before until recently. The industrial area has access to 1 harbour and 2 rail connections. It's possible there is traffic jams and it's not clear (without a traffic tool) to check and see if its a traffic issue or a AI issue as

I had just expanded my road near my nearest rail connection to fix a congestion issue.

I will investigate further.

Farming and forresty are completely renewable.

I usually find that if they are complaining about lack goods from an industrial point of view and I have good outside connections, it's most likely a traffic problem.

If commercial are complaning of similar issues, it's either a traffic problem again or you don't have enough industry to support your commercial. i'm having this trouble just now after rebuilding all my industrial areas. Note to self, do not try to rebuild a quarter of a city in 1 go! :P

Non renewable resources run out pretty fast. What you can do though, when they run out locally you can manually demolish the drilling buildings(you can usually make them out, they become very unhappy when no resources are below). They will then redevelop into product producing building but still of the specialist industry. Can help with good supplies. I have 1 small patch of each specialist industry just to make local goods who have to import the raw material.

Cargo train stations at local industry districts also help a lot.

Hope some of this helps.

Once the ore and oil is depleted, I keep the zones and they just start importing oil and ore to the very same firms that were harvesting the stuff. Income stays the same. Weird game.
