Is it possible the education level of available jobs does not match the education level of the jobless
Libertha 14 marca 2015 o 10:15
i guess hadron collider caused this then
I have this same problem .
21% unemployed and the city has an insane demand for residential but nothing for Com and Ind
Education is good and i don't have a hadron collider.

Have you got good road connections , public transports enough ? If it's too far people can t go to, work ? ...
Vimpster 8 maja 2015 o 13:22
As egnap mentions, it could very well be a distance/time factor. The residential do not show icons to indicate they are unable to find work nor does unemployment have any real negative impact on residents, but the work locations on the other hand will indicate with an icon when they are lacking workers and will eventually become abandoned because of it.

As a result of not seeing the residents complaining or any negative consequences of residents being unemployed, players seem to often build residential too far from the jobs. It would be nice if the game made it more evident when a location has poor access to work locations.

All that being said, if you just recently built a hadron collider and this unemployment stemed from that, then it is most likely a temporary situation from having so many people suddenly over educated. They should over time go to work however. I believe when a person is over educated they take longer before taking a job.

Did some work on my city tonight and got the unemployment down to 4%
i removed education boost policy and some schools.
improved public transport and upgraded industry to level 3...
Not sure which factor contributed the most but something helped.

Thanx guys

I have the opposite problem, i've only been zoning nothing but res for what seems like ages yet having trouble getting unemployment to go above 3%, whilst many of my industrial areas abandon due to insufficient workers. I guess I probably zoned too much ind earlier on as I'm used to SC4 which requires a lot more of it.

Can we trade some industry for workers :D
Lolz in Cities XL you actually could do that.

You've got the pie chart right there. More than half of those who are unemployed can't hold jobs.

Children - 11%
Teens - 16%
Young Adults - 17%
Seniors - 14%

The rest of the people either can't find jobs they are qualified for (not educated enough) or can't get to where the jobs are (not good enough transportation or too much unemployment.)

Matbe someone could do a mod that calculates the employment rate based on the number of people who are actually of working age.
Stealthy 8 maja 2015 o 19:38
It already is. Otherwise i couldn't reach 1-3% unemployment rates... Also managed to get 100% unemployment, yet everything works normally...

Young adults are actually part of the working force. If you have a university however then one third of young adults will go to university while the other two thirds enter the workforce.

Interestingly enough, despite only one third of young adults being able to go to university, it seems that all can recieve a university education. Much the same way as adults are able to retroactively gain high school and elementary school educations without ever having physically attended them.

I had a similiar experiance after building the Hadron Collider at 120k population, my cims went to 97% highly educated, unemployment went to 46% and all my demand bars flatlined. It finally worked itself out but it took a looong time.
I've also found that zoning low residential instead of high for a little bit helps to level the unemployment back out for some reason.
ThatsWhatSheSaid 5 września 2020 o 21:33
I've come to the conclusion that cims living in high density res and highly educated won't go work for industry. I have 97‰ highly educated and replaced all the low density residential to high density unemployment 33% with 132k jobs available. I started building slums just outside the industry areas, no services can't afford them and got unemployment down to 19% in last 3 hours just doing that
Nite69 5 września 2020 o 21:40
yes the hadron collidor is the cause of this I had the same problem on my last city I am gonna avoid using it this time, it boosts residential but then can't keep up with unemployment
