How do rotate the dam to face another direction?

Build it from the other direction you were trying to make it in?

All the dams really do though is back up the water behind them a bit to use it to produce power though.

I cant rotate the damn thing

There should be no reason to rotate it. The arch should always face upstream as in real life they are designed this way to direct the force towards the two points on shore.

From what I have seen it is not possible to rotate them.

Its built from one bank to the other, WHY do you want to rotate it? It's default is to face the correct way, ie, against the water flow.

Not really, I'm on a map where the water flows up but the dam placement is facing the wrong direction in the default view, C shape pointing down.

Maybe by rotating the entire map view 180 can change its orientation.

Oh well, I'll check later.

this is my issue as well

Maybe the game expects you to build with the face (dry side) facing you and you are looking downstream instead of up?

Can you show us some screen shots of where you are trying to put the dam with the waterflow info screen turned ON. I've never seen a problem with placing them, the arch of the dam should be pointing up stream, if you build dams the other way round in RL they would easily break because of the amount of water it has to hold back... Think of how arch ways over doors / bridges etc are done - you never see the arch the other way because the weight of all the bricks will just break the arch - Check these out:

it is seemingly a bug in a game that i am getting (and have seen streamers getting it). The dam just trys to place backwards. There doesnt seem to be any way to resolve it and i just didnt bother with the dam

This sounds like a case of not understanding physics to me!

I too wish you could rotate it so that I could place dams backwards and drain rivers/lakes to make more buildable land OR at the very least make it so when you turn a dam off it stops allowing water to flow through making it possible to drain rivers that way.

You know - Except when the flow is temporarily messed up due to pumps, sewage drains and such... Also - Sometimes you want to flip it to keep water OUT, not IN.

And no - No way to rotate them currently except flipping the flow temporarily.

You shouldn't have to rotate them! Their default orientation should already face the correct direction. If there is a bug, try a different location.

Also, sometimes water flows both ways in a river, confusing the dam's orientation. This happens when you have already placed other dams in the river system and can persist for a while, even after deleting the dam.

The map may not be suitable for hydroelectricity!

Check out this guide: Hydroelectricity Crash Course.

Let me know if this helps in the guide's comment section!
