Texas Style Highways?
Can someone post screen shots of a Texas Style highway? I'd really like to work on a city like Fort Worth or Dallas and cities on the outskirts, but cannot seem to work out how to build a Highway flanked by the frontage roads and on/off ramps while also supporting standard over/underpasses. All this use of one-way roads is very un-like how things are here.

I already know what they look like in real life. I'm having trouble duplicating it in game, so I thought some in-game screen caps would help me figure things out.

whats so special about texas highways?

i raise up the highways and run the streets under it. i have service drives (frontage roads) running parallel to the highway itself. then i just use short on/off ramps to the service drives. i leave 6-8 squares between the service drive and the highway and place offices or city services in those spots.

for the off/on ramp placement i go about every two under passes and place them at the intersection already there or mid way between the intersections if not possible depending on terrain etc.

keep in mind my industry and commercial areas are sitting next to each other and i have a heavy traffic ban city wide. otherwise those short ramps will clog up with those trucks and goods vehicles.

hope this helps

Look on intersections. There are 2 Texas style Highway off ramps.

when i think 'texas style' highways, i think of 6-8 lane seas of pavement. they do have some really tight/small on and off ramps though. i havent been there in about 15 years, but thats how i remember it.

Nothing special about it. Just something I like. :)

I have been trying to build Texas style too ( one way frontages and Texas u-turns) but so far the results have not been pretty. If I can get it right eventually, I will post some pics.

Yeah it's true, some of the Texas highways are just ginormous. But it's really about how we interact with the highway with those frontage roads (roads on either side that parallel the highway) and our general disdain of flyovers and clovers (there are notable exceptions in the big cities).

Here's how I would do it:

If you need any more help with other interchanges, let me know - I'm a road enthusiast and I that's what I spend a majority of my time in my cities doing - interchanges, planning route networks, etc.

Hope it helps!

thats a simple highway crossing, just with larger roads...

Atlanta had 8-12 lanes too.

ok, many lines on a freeway is interessting, if it works. But really, i can't get the fuss about it. I am from the land with no speed limit and believe, have you seen one big intersection, you have seen them all.

It's an interesting situation because Texan highways are generally considered the best of America's in terms of drivability and maintenance. They also function surprisingly well considering the sheer volume of drivers, after all most families have 2 vehicles and many have 3 or 4 (one for each child).

Also, it's just nice to see some highways done up like the ones you grew up with.

Good picture Zephy Zeph. Did you try it with two-way frontage roads?
