Garbage Overflowing
I'm not sure why my garbage keeps piling up. I've got greater incinerator capacity than garbage being produced, yet my landfill capacity keeps running out.

Incinerator's dont work in tandom with your landfills, they sorta work like a landfill. so whats happening is your incinerator's and landfill are both competing for garbage. best thing to do is you export the garbage from your remaining landfills (so it gets burnt) and then delete the landfil. it wont cause any problems(assuming you keep a higher burning rate than produced).

Incinerators dont take the garbage from the landfills. You need to empty one, so that they transport it to the incinerators.
Also capacity is not equal the burn rate. If you click on the incinerators you normally see only 30-70% burn rate of their maximal burn capacity.

Ahh okay that makes sense that both are competing for garbage. If I set one landfill to export garbage will they send it to incinerators or other land fills (or both)?

Looks like cemetary / creamatory works the same way... Thanks.

They'll prioritize incinerators. If all your incinerators are full, they'll export to other landfills instead.

Just remember that a landfill that is exporting garbage isn't using any of its trucks to collect garbage. I generally have my garbage production centers consisting of 2 landfills and 1/2 incinerators. One landfill is always set to export to make sure im getting the most out of my incinerators while sacrificing too much collection efficiency.

If for some reason I don't notice that one landfill is full while the other is still set to export, the incinerator trucks can pick up the slack...for a while.

Also very important is to make sure you have adequate trucks picking up garbage.

Once you get bigger (and start adding educated workers), even though you may have numerous landfills or incinerators, you might only have a couple of trucks operating which could be the true problem.

How many trucks do you have total operating for all your pick ups?

NExt to that, it also matters how far away your incinerators are and how heavy traffic is, you can have lots of capacity left over, but if your garbage trucks have to travel for miles or are stuck in traffic, they just can't pick up the garbage fast enough.

I recently moved my garbage and industrial to a new island to clear some pollution and open room for more city. It took time emptying the dumps into incinerators but it worked. Make sure your garbage trucks are getting good funding otherwise you won't move it.
