how much ram do you have?
GER_Ryze Mar 11, 2015 @ 11:59am
? Don't understand that question. What have my pc specs to do with the ingame money?

sorry, I misread the question, I read it as memory, not money, sorry,

as for running out of money, yeah I can relate to that,

Underrated post.

@TC: As you level up and unlock buildings, are you building them right away? If you start adding public services as soon as you unlock them without waiting to grow a little more, you can quickly overwhelm your income stream.

At least, that's what happens to me.

Have you tried loans? You can also set your taxes higher
Nox Mar 11, 2015 @ 12:03pm
Hm. That's a problem I didn't have. I raised taxes to 10% and only added services once I was well above them in positive cash flow

He probably read memory instead of money. Well first off, try to lower the budget for electricity etc. wherever it is possible. If you produce way more eletricity or water which you have no use for, then lower the budget to save money. Also don't take on any policies early on in the game, especially not if you have money problems since they can ruin you very quickly if you have not much income. Also make sure to not overexpand to much. Don't build too much and just take it slow and step by step. Only expand what and when something is needed. If certain buildings get unlocked like hosptial, police station etc., don't just start building them immediately. First check you balance, how much profit you make per week currently and how much the building costs weekly. When expanding you should also not forget that even roads cost you money each week, the more and bigger roads you build, the more upkeep you have to pay each week. If people are not complaining and are willing to move into your city, try raising the taxes to get some additional income. Also wind energy is cheaper than the power plant. While the initial cost in comparison to gigawatt (?) per month seems less beneficial than for the power plant, in the long run it saves you a lot of money if you set on wind energy due to the lower upkeep.

Slow things down a little. I'm at 5,500 and have over a $2,000 weekly surplus with well over $100K in the bank running 2x police, 2x fire, 2x elementary, 1x high school, 1x clinic, and a plethora of parks. I've also dropped tax rates on residential to 8, commercial is at 9, and industry I bumped to 10. Have to let the city grow into itself a little. Leveling up some buildings seems to be a great way to grow your income base without paying for expansion/infrastructure.

This game is so easy how can one fail. You just give people services as they need them. If you played simcity 4 this game should be cake.

Always keep your cashflow positive(green) and keep tweaking the budget for power and water (lower buget way below 100% and keep the output slightly to the green right of the yellow middle bar, use your info panels)

Pay attention to upkeep of stuff/buildings before you place them down.

Hahaha yeah same with me, first city builder I've played and I'm in the red by 4k population. I really have to try hard to not fail in the game, we're not all Mark Brendanawicz

Well if you want to make more money try to make more industrial specialized districts and make sure they have good access to outside connections. You can also make more residential districts and choose to tax them more (if their land value is high). I'd reccomend making a dense residential area near offices (of which isolate dense commercial zones). Plop in plazas parks, have one main hospital, fire department, good bus routes and enough schools and you should be rich.
