iMac w/ GTX 780M Launch Problem

I can't get the game to launch at all. I have tried every solution that I've seen mentioned in these forums to get it to launch, but no luck.

System Profile:
MacOS Version 10.10.2
iMac 27" (Late 2013)
GTX 780M; 4096 MB
Screen Resolution: 2560x1440 (IMac)
i7 3.5Ghz
32GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Connected to Thunderbolt Display (2560x1440)

Things I've tried:
- Deleting and re-installing Cities Skylines
- Checking for Steam Updates (Latest version installed)
- Disabling in-game Steam overlay
- Setting game launch options to "-windowed" and "-sw"
- Launching game from Steam
- Launching game from Finder
- Checked Apple Store for latest software updates (Everything up to date)
- Set launch option to "-condebug" in an attempt to get a debug log. None seemed to be created
- *EDIT*: Tried unplugging Thunderbolt Display; still no luck
- *EDIT*: Verified the cache; still no luck
- *EDIT*: Enrolled in Steam Beta program and updated Steam. Nope.
- *EDIT*: Installed nVidia CUDA driver. No luck.
- *EDIT*: Updated to version 1.06b, still not working for me!
- *EDIT*: Installed latest Mac OS security update (3/20/15), no luck.
- *EDIT*: Tried running Steam in "Big Picture Mode", no luck
- *EDIT*: Noticed that Steam doesn't recognize my GPU correctly--claims 2GB, when I have a 4GB card.


When launching from Steam, a window pops up briefly that says something like "Preparing to launch Cities Skylines" (Only appears for a split second), then it goes away. In my "Library" sidebar in steam, I see the word "Syncing" appear for a split second next to Cities Skylines. Nothing else happens.

When launching from the finder, the game attemps to open in full screen mode. A black window appears, and animates to a full screen as it slides over to my second desktop/places. Before the animation ends, everytihng stops, and I return to my desktop. Nothing else happens.

Unlike many other people here, I can't even get into the game menu. It doesn't launch at all. Hopefully this post documents a problem that myself as well as a few other people are having. I am willing to try any sort of diagnostics or techniques and post the results here.

Have you tried unplugging the display and try running it on the iMac display?

Disconnected Thunderbolt Display--still no luck. Game behaves exactly like described above.

I have this exact same issue on my retina MBP. My system profile:

Macbook Pro Retina (Late 2013)
GTX 750M; 2048 MB
Screen Resolution: 2560x1440 (IMac)
i7 2.3Ghz
16GB 1600 MHz DDR3

This is really frustrating as I have paid for a game which I can't even launch. I understand it has only just been released but it would be nice to get a response on this.

Same iMac as peaceoutguy (but without the second display), same symptoms, tried the same stuff, no dice.

Thanks for sharing your experience too. I'm starting to think it's related to the GPU we both have. I saw someone else in another thread say they had similar problems with the 780M.

Thanks for the tips! I downloaded and installed the CUDA driver, reset, and still no luck. The other driver was for GPUs in Mac Pros.

Support response from Paradox: Disable Steam overlay, and verify the game cache (neither of which help).

simialar system, mac, i can get to the menu half the time and when i do and start a world it freezes and i cantr get out and have to restart.
