Hydro is "not operating". SOLVED!!

IDK why. I connected the road, connected the power. Its holding back a heap of water... what am I missing?

It takes a while to process it. It took me a while (Even though I positioned in a perffect spot at max Wattage of 1600 *when put in 100% electricity funding*

You just gotta let it run its course. It'll operate in due time. I was about to ask on forums earlier when patience bore fruit of fully operational Hydro.

okies well 1/2hr so far so thought I should check. How long did yours take?

if you placed your hydro plant in a location without strong water flow then you just wasted a bunch of money and created a lake. You need good water flow for the hydro plant to work. I love the dynamic water in the game. Accidently flooed part of my first city with the hydro plant.

it might be the river you put it on is either not big enough or its on a spot where its flow is low the more big arrows the better

For me it's worse, it worked perfectly, it had a strong flow, the river raised, it produced electricity, and then.... the water lowered, the floreversed and no power, no flow at al.... I don't understand, it's a custom map I made myself with a lot of flow... It works for one or two year then back to the begining like nothing happened....

Exactly the same for me. Everything was perfect for a while and it started to fail. The water is still pretty high on one side but it's like it won't let water pass....

hmm I had a crapload of small arrows.. cant see any big ones... It i sthe top map in the list when you create a city. It has a big lake close to where you start.

No, it's a custom map I made with sat map, I just dig the river and put the water, I even put a flow generator just before the dam....
And it works perfectly fine at the begining, then it's like the flow generator stop working, there is no flow left and the water take the sea level.....

(the flow generator is not just before the dam, it's at the begining of the map, in the fog, and I know it works, at the begining of the dam, and even before building it, it produce a hell of a flow.)

Could be that your dam is too high.. deleted mine and lowered it, it's now working fine. It could also be that if you electricity budget is too high, the dam will retain too much water..

well, problem is, at the begining, the water it retains is fine, but after some time, it doesn't retain anything.

Probably your dam is too high. The dam will only work if the water reached a level almost at the dam height (imagine that the "hole" the water can flow through is nearly at the top of the dam). Often it just takes some time for the water to reach that level. Ddepending on the water amount that should be dammed this could take even a year or so, but progress should be visible (in form of slowly increasing water level). If the water level does not increase, it probably flows away elsewhere. In this case your only chance is to reduce the dam height or to prevent it flowing elsewhere by building a second dam if this is possible.

I have noticed it does not work particularly well with lakes (where it should work) I would try a river that goes off the map, worked instantly for me.

Yes, that what it does. that works fine, and then, the water takes the sea level and there is no flow left even after destroying the dam.

I'll try to make a video or take some shots.

BINGO!!! Confirmed! You cant use a lake for a dam (kinda odd if you ask me) but you MUST use a river.
