After playing this for about 6 hours now, all I can say is that all the youtubers who said "this is what SimCity 5 was meant to be" are 100% correct. It's a lot more fun and the cities you can make are massive.
The only downside I have found so far is that it's a bit easier than SimCity 5, but only a little bit. I thought SimCity 5 was pretty easy. You don't have to worry about things like disasters and it's a lot harder for your city to go bankrupt. But essentially it's only really easy in the sense that it's hard to completely fail at the game, the true "difficulty" comes in to getting your city running perfectly with everyone happy, healthy, low traffic congestion, educated etc.
I recommend buying the game, if you want to go back to the "good old days" of sim city that you remember, this is the game you're looking for.
I kind of tricked myself too as I considered an entire region as being one city, it kind of works on some of the small maps, but again I'm just trying to get some value out of that £50 pre order... to think of how many PC games I'd normally get for that price. It definitely put me off pre ordering for life.
But I still haven't make a city using the Cities of Tomorrow buildings and also never launched the space shuttle, so that'll be my final Sim City 5 run and then I'll buy Cities.
SimCity is now playable off line. It has A LOT of diversity in buildings, looks, and building functionality. It is a better simulator as every sprite has a "life" and is simulated. Every car, every person, every business.
Overall, from what I saw of Skyline, from dozen of hours of lets play videos. SimCity is far superior. Especially with all the updates.
But Skylines has superior scale and performance. Other than that, honestly i can see a lot has taken from Sim City to call Skylines cloney.
Still as for now i prefer to play Skylines and hope for a constant updates and improvements.
And of course it is not Online only. I know that Sim City became singleplayer, but the part of it still require online or you will lose market/tax additions.
Even Cities XL failed at the online thing and frankly that was pretty awesome compared to SC2013.
If there is one lesson to be learned, it is to never buy EA games again.
Also, the Cities of Tomorrow expansion pack is pretty cool. This game doesn't have unique content like that yet.
Tons of repeated buildings in this one too. I'm sure the good mod support will fix that in time.
