Will this game ruin Sim City 5 for me? (As if it wasn't ruined already)
I've been playing the Sim City franchise since the early 90's and was as frustrated with Simcity 5 as anyone was who preordered it and pretty much gave up on it, but I came back to it a year or two afterwards and got the expansions cheaply, and treating it for what it is - a small town simulator - actually enjoyed a lot about it especially making holiday islands with casinos and themeparks.

I actually think I'd play it some more too having accepted it's shortcomings and get a bit more play time for my hefty preorder costs.

However.

If Cities is so much better that it would make Sim City 5 unplayable, I'll actuallly hold off on getting Cities for while till I get done with Simcity 5 to avoid backlog and maybe get a sale price too.

So to anyone who actually learned to live with Simcity 5 who also has this game, could you ever go back to Simcity 5 even just to play a couple of small towns?

Could they in some way complement each other or does Cities humiliate and replace Sim City 5 totally?

Or I could just consign Simcity 5 to history and just get this game anyway.

This game is superior in every way, literally. I mean i stoped playing simcity very early after all the bugs and tiny map and the online :poop:... Never going back.

i would say simcity is more diverse on themes than this game, but if you want to build and plan a huge city this is the game for you. if you want to build themed villages then simcity is the game for you. but..... as this game supports mods i really believe the community will do something about the lack of themes. to be honest i am liking cities more because of how smooth it runs and how easy it is to plan your infrastructure. my specs i7 3770, 12gb ram, nvidia 650gtx

I even liked SC5 and this game I can see already is a lot better.

Simply due to the larger cities where it doesnt rely on a bunch of other people playing in your region to have fun it wins hands down. Sim city shot itself in the foot when they wanted the whole always online and tiny maps.

I didn't mind SimCity 5, the towns were too small for my liking but I liked the idea of regions with cities working together and co-op. I basically tricked myself in to getting over the small town thing by treating entire regions as my city. So I wasn't crazy about the game, but I didn't denounce Maxis and get all ragey over it either.

After playing this for about 6 hours now, all I can say is that all the youtubers who said "this is what SimCity 5 was meant to be" are 100% correct. It's a lot more fun and the cities you can make are massive.

The only downside I have found so far is that it's a bit easier than SimCity 5, but only a little bit. I thought SimCity 5 was pretty easy. You don't have to worry about things like disasters and it's a lot harder for your city to go bankrupt. But essentially it's only really easy in the sense that it's hard to completely fail at the game, the true "difficulty" comes in to getting your city running perfectly with everyone happy, healthy, low traffic congestion, educated etc.

I recommend buying the game, if you want to go back to the "good old days" of sim city that you remember, this is the game you're looking for.

Thanks for the replies, I'll definitely get this game soon, but I think I'll give Sim City 5 one last quick run first to get value out of it as it seems it's really not worth playing it again after getting Cities.

I kind of tricked myself too as I considered an entire region as being one city, it kind of works on some of the small maps, but again I'm just trying to get some value out of that £50 pre order... to think of how many PC games I'd normally get for that price. It definitely put me off pre ordering for life.

But I still haven't make a city using the Cities of Tomorrow buildings and also never launched the space shuttle, so that'll be my final Sim City 5 run and then I'll buy Cities.

I've never played the new SC - but speaking of the the older ones (especially SC 4) this game really seems to be superior. It has a few rough edges, too. For instance in SC you could see how close to full capacity your power facilities were - here you just have to wait till the first buildings get blackouts. But these are really minor issues, and can certainly be solved soon in a patch.

I've watched many hours of videos of Skylines. I have played hundreds of hours of SimCity and still am.

SimCity is now playable off line. It has A LOT of diversity in buildings, looks, and building functionality. It is a better simulator as every sprite has a "life" and is simulated. Every car, every person, every business.

Overall, from what I saw of Skyline, from dozen of hours of lets play videos. SimCity is far superior. Especially with all the updates.

As a man who is own both of them, I can say that Sim City is more accesable and polished as for now.
But Skylines has superior scale and performance. Other than that, honestly i can see a lot has taken from Sim City to call Skylines cloney.
Still as for now i prefer to play Skylines and hope for a constant updates and improvements.
And of course it is not Online only. I know that Sim City became singleplayer, but the part of it still require online or you will lose market/tax additions.

Even Cities XL failed at the online thing and frankly that was pretty awesome compared to SC2013.

i deleted simcity from my computer today, there's not enough words to express how much better this is, and it JUST is getting started with the modder community, since the game is going to garner a lot of attention since all the other city builders out now are either 7 yrs old or new and suck
OhMySnowball 2015 年 3 月 10 日 下午 4:31
I paid $79.99 for deluxe SimCity 2013 and regretted that purchase. There is no way I will force myself to play that horrible game just for "redeeming the value." Cities Skylines, while it's themes can be improved, is already beating SimCity in the play value. The modding community is much more active. I am never going back to SimCity.

If there is one lesson to be learned, it is to never buy EA games again.

SimCity 5 has better graphics. This game looks like ass. It's obviously been developed to run on toasters with little thought towards those with high performance machines.

Also, the Cities of Tomorrow expansion pack is pretty cool. This game doesn't have unique content like that yet.

Tons of repeated buildings in this one too. I'm sure the good mod support will fix that in time.

If you click on the electricity icon it will show both the capacity and demand down to every MW.
