Seriously man, I was so excited for that game, but the Glassbox engine lived up to its name. Easy to shatter.
I think C:SL might be the best city builder since SimCity 2000 and SimCity 4. Those games were so awesome. I wish Maxis would of just expanded on the Simcity 4 idea instead of making the POS they did.
1. income suddenly becomes negative for no reason. Your city is doing well, you should be collecting enough taxes.. you didn't build too many schools or hospitals etc.. but suddenly that deficit will hit you like a brick out of nowhere.. either some megatower stopped receiving water (even when water is all green).. some megatower didn't receive enough electricity? which is absurb as they are all green too.. such bugs are littered everywhere in Simcity 5 like poop. And you thought you could just increase taxes to solve the issue? No.. game makes it hard for you to do that.. people will stop coming in to your city the moment you'd increase taxes.. next you'll notice all your industries and commerce are closing down due to lack of manpower - ALWAYS this happens even when you'd already have like 4... YES 4 megatowers built in your city.. it is just STUPID that those huge megatowers cannot supply the required workforce!!
2. casinos suddenly fluctuate from a 50k performing daily.. down to 17k daily.. for no reason once again. Your city has like 4-5 types of public transportation, regional transportation: air, train, bus.. but still.. IT FAILS TO BRING IN GAMBLERS FOR NO APPARENT REASON. My test city (SP mode) had like 5 casinos of all sorts suddenly have all their income slashed by as much as 3/4 suddenly out of nowhere.. no explanaation of why.. no crime, nothing big happened.. but it just happens!!!
3. water can actually run out from your pump.. even when the pump is situated beside the river! how nonsense is that?? and I don't kid you the water below ground runs out REAL fast. After which you gotta go around searching for that perfect spot to bulldoze some stuffs just to place water pump.. happens often.. demolish to place stuff.. yea space sucks in this game.
4. regional cities cooperation not working as intended.. your city is suppose to receive $$ for volunteering extra cops/medics etc to the other city.. but noooo you'd never the passive income anywhere in the charts..
5. resources are scarce, and runs out real quick.. those ores under your city runs dry in a blink of an eye.. and then you found out you're f*** that your other cities in the region don't have the same resources! import cheap and export out a finish product?? if you're to have lots of $$ and space to do that!
6. HQ buildings takes up too damn much space.. SPACE is always an issue in this game.. especially in your first city of the region. Really Maxis? you only could give us such a small plot of land to build on??
7. missions that ppl give you are plain stupid and unrewarding. what does 1k-2k simoleons means anything to my thriving city? I rather not bother.
8. you can't switch off disasters.. they will keep coming and you can't do a ♥♥♥♥ about it. Even in single player mode.
9. Even with cheat Alt+W in SP mode I'm struggling to keep up.. i couldn't imagine what is like without cheat.. even with cheat it is normal to keep seeing my revenue ends up in negatives! (not the $$ in my stash.. is my cash inflow.. out is USUALLY more than in.. which really irks me as I just couldn't balance it right no matter how hard I've tried.. things will just go wrong)
That's all to it.. I've played city building games and strategy games so for a person like me it's unusual to see how this game treats me..
strategy city building games in the past I've played: Simcity 2000, Simcity 4, Anno 2070, Caesar 3, Pharaoh, Emperor Rise of Middle Kingdom, Settlers.. so i know what i'm talking about.. this game seriously has bugs everywhere (in the most discreet sense).. you gotta really pay attention and you'll found out things are really not working as intended. Really wrecks gameplay when the only option is to take a loan coz your city is not performing.. and sucks that the fault isn't coming from you. EA is not doing a ♥♥♥♥ about those issues too they just continue to milk sales from unsuspecting folks.
Unless your computer still has its tape drive, 5.25" floppy, and Zip Drive still in use odds are you have plenty of room for both, so why uninstall it? Honestly even though this game looks like it is what Sim City (2013) should have been, and Sim City (2013) feel short in many many ways because of design chooses of try to add multiplayer in a single player genre, much like how porting The Sims to console made that port fall very short to The Sims PC edition because of changes that had to be made for the controller, it still wasn't a horrible game (it wasn't good but it wasn't horrible) and I am sure that there are some aspects of what they did to make it multiplayer that might be fun to dip into once every blue moon even if Skylines is a better overall game.
Unless you have a small hard drive and need the space why uninstall something that you may want to play at a later date even if only for a few minutes. Heck I still have Deus Ex HR and Deus Ex HR Directors cut both installed on my computer even though I have no reason to have the same game with the only real difference being the boss fights tweaked and the DLC being built into the actual story rather then a standalone DLC side thing.
I open my saved SC4 city yet today sometimes but I wish a today's graphics/engine gameplay, this was my reason to buy this Skylines: I want my metropolis almost unlimited!
Unfortunately a multiplayer city game/sim must be waited for more time yet.
Would be cool several players playing in the same city, each one by four-years (gametime/turns) term and the citizens voting for ex-mayors back and/or a rank of the best mayor based on city growth in mandate of respective mayor and so on.
Yes, except SimCity 4: RH, I believe, for now too.
;D
In a way, the city size limit creates a necessity to build incredibly efficient layouts and to constantly micromanage everything. I guess people just wanted to build their ♥♥♥♥♥♥ cities across the whole map instead of that. Sim City 5 wasn't great, but it still managed to be compelling enough.
For someone who is going to benefit greatly from the steam workshop, and probably uses simcity 2013 mods.. you seem to use lots of "internet / multiplayerish" features... while not wanting multiplayer in citybuilders.
They were simply doing the bidding of their corporate masters over at EA. And we all know what EA was thinking - "KA -CHNG KA-CHING, ♥♥♥♥ people are stupid!"
