And just because it is on steam there is nothing to prevent it from being DRM less... Kerbal space is a perfect example of a game on steam that is completely DRM free except for using steam for distribution of updates. You can copy the folder to any pc you have even if it does not have steam and run it like normally.

..maybe not or maybe it will change the world and you will have to accept the new DRM-free religion and bow to the gog gods, or else you will be declared heretic and hunted down like a dog/duck by the DRM-free inquisitors!
I'd cave and buy it on steam if I were you.
If for some reason you lose your steam account by getting banned or hacked, you will lose access to all these games. With GOG you will always have a copy that is yours and will run even if steam goes under.
Nothing stops them from releasing a DRM free version that does not rely on steam at all.
Yes, as a publisher I need DRM, as a buyer i hate DRM. XD
