Traffic Manager System issues
I'm not sure what the workaround is for this issue other than TMPE Mod, which I have. I started a new city on December 7th, after creating a new map on December 6th. I have my four outside highway connections, My outside traffic is okay, but what my issue was recently I've noticed that all traffic was using one lane? After years of playing this game since it released, I've managed to figure out population growth, proper road management using asymmetrical when properly needed, etc, and making a very good staggering amount of weekly income while on "Unlimited" money. However what my issue is that I've noticed today. The cars use one lane no matter how many lanes, I used TMPE car blocking feature on certain lanes and used shift key to apply all the roads in that road area. However the system didn't seem to take effect, and all cars, transits, etc where still stuck in one lane. Yes it was in 3x speed, not paused and still nothing. When I hit the clear traffic in TMPE menu, it seemed to resolve itself. However now the issue is all my local area resources (Cops, Fire, Ambulance, Morgue, & Trash Trucks), are all going to cities really far away when each city has its own system? The bigger cities have enough stations to cover the entire area. Each city is painted as its own district as well. Randomly I noticed this when I started to follow a patrol police car after I cleared traffic. What would be a 3hr drive IRL they went way out of there way. During the patrol I started seeing the trash trucks and other emergency vehicles going the opposite ways all lined up in a fleet? Is there a better way to fix this? Thank you!

If this information helps at all? I am at current population of, 116,032, nearly 10yrs in, the current date in game is set as, 05/28/2033

Also, idk if this helps too? But I'v also noticed sims who live in town are also driving several cities away for work, even though companies nearby are complaining that they don't have enough workers? Yes there is regular education and higher education in all cities as well... If that helps any? Just trying to input all the information.

In short you have lane forcing issues in many areas. That is caused by the road arrows or lane designations. I will try to find a way to run the 81Tile mod and have a better look later but for now knowing how the lanes work or how they(the agents) see and use them. Though for now I have a few videos that may help understand why things are happening in your city.

There are many reasons for single laning. From traffic flow too slow for the volume in that lane to lane forcing. Lane forcing is where traffic is being pushed out of their lane of choice due to an intersecting street claiming the lane for turning purposes. Single laning can also happen when all the intersecting streets are the same causing a common lane for this and that. Which can confuse the agents.

There are some things that Traffic Manager can't touch. I too have been playing since it came out and refuse to use TM: because it can fail horribly after a while. I suspect due to the demands the player places on the mod.
It would be better if you could shared the city file so that we could understand the issue better.
For example jobs or employment is offered on a first come first served basis, not proximity to work.

So if you don't mind sharing the city file with us?
To do so you go to ContentManager at the landing page of Cities: click SAVEGAMES,
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3050720481
click the share button of that city.
After that you can inform us or paste the link here.

@OneJasonBradly, thanks for the reply. -Joseph

This is the physical map that I had made, btw you need the 81tiles mod for this map
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3381742950

This file was prior to the fix with TMPE where everything was an issue.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3381740012

This file was with the fixed portion where traffic started going all over the place instead of in its controlled areas.

As for the service vehicles driving very far when service is closer to them may point to vehicle limit issue because of all the single laning vehicles. It's a symptom possibly.

It would help you very much to learn road hierarchy and lane mathematics, and then use them in your cities.

Biffa has several very good videos on traffic management in CS1 on YouTube.

@OneJasonBradly
Again thank you! I will look at these videos probably later on :)
JDuane Dec 9, 2024 @ 6:51pm
@Mr. Monday
I had watched Biffas videos for a VERY LONG time, he's where I learned about alot of
the road lanes n stuff from that I use now. I just haven't been able to quite figure out
the aspects of Network Anarchy or Road Hierarchy. One these days I'll figure that part
out, at least I know the asymmetrical roads and when to use them properly. I'm
thinking of switching some roads along highways into the city sections into the
asymmetrical roads instead of highway roads so cars know where to turn n stuff so that way they're not confused like @OneJasonBradly mentioned in an earlier reply

Which maybe will fix the issue in those areas?

I hadn't expected the map to get so congested in these areas where the national highways are located in areas that are meant to be just a highway, but just like in real life major cities, and rural towns follow his method too! I like the feel of it in my map honestly :)

Definitely will need to do the asymmetrical lanes though to fix issues for sure!

I loaded your city with your workshop and it is very spread out and very young.

You definitely need way more services. Everyone complains of garbage, crime, freight, etc.

But your city just hasn't had time to fully mature and traffic is congesting from it quickly.

Everything in game is on a timer. You are out of time.

Mods might be able to help, but everything is so spread out it will be a huge challenge even using mods.

I mean most of your buildings are level 1 still and they max out at level5.

Keep at it, you may need to restart a few times to get the hang of the game.

Good luck and have fun.

Thank you for getting back to me on that one! Much appropriated.
Any insights on what other mods to use other than from the ones I have?

Actually, I'm not a fan of game altering mods. I like info mods so I can see the health of my city and use it to fix or optimize my cities.

The only advice I can give you is to read your mods carefully and make sure they are configured correctly for your needs. Don't forget to read the discussions and a few pages of comments at the bottom of the mod page. Look for required mods for the mod you are subscribing and look for info on conflicting mods. Most of the time conflicting mods show up in comments, especially on a game update.

Thank you, everything you had recommended seems to be fixing alot of the issues along with the vehicle restrictions I have implemented with TMPE, much satisfied, The population has increased to 213,789 and everything is running effectively, also

@MarkJohnson
Your recommendation from when you loaded the game earlier seems to resolved as well.

I will keep up with these additional feedback you have provided to continue fixing my city. fyi, anyone is welcome to play on the map I have created if you like flat maps, this is for you

You can replace your pollution mod with this one for better bonuses in general.

Also, your IT Cluster are overloading freight a bit. I would just revert them to offices in general. This way they won't impede progress. I mean you already have a freight mod (Infinite Goods) working for you:

Just make sure you "Enable All" in mod settings.

I will have to check out the other mod, but I already have infinite goods, I think its disabled tho cuz it keeps saying not enough buyers even tho the population is over 200k right now

This game cracks me up sometimes lol :)
