It not does fix your road design and traffic issues because of a bad design.

Money in the game really has never been a limiting factor for me, so I don't really think it adds/removes much. The only time that you really need to watch money is at the very beginning, after which money just steadily increases. It seems most people who use infinite money use it so they can lay out specific road infrastructure across their map, rather than growing the networks organically.

Funny how that works out. Depending on when you started playing City Skylines, you originally didn't have unlimited money. Later a mod added the feature. Later on City Skylines made a mod released with the game that provided unlimited money.

So when I first started playing I played a few games where money was an issue at the start but after a few games you learned how to "Start your City". The you tried some games like Savarast says, unlimited money, lots of mods, buy all 25 tiles at the start, layout all your highways, maybe your industrial areas, your metro and rail networks. Try different designs for road networks to fix traffic issues.

Then after a while of that I personally went back to the milestones, no unlimited money and fewer and fewer mods.

Now I'm playing with no mods at all but I have all the DLCs. The games has come a long way since release. Over time you end up building your own interchanges for those one off custom connections.

Infinite money does nothing apart from allowing you to build more freely.

Then you should watch this video to help out on starting a city, without going broke and grow it organically. While he uses a DLC map, they way he starts a city can be used on any map either way.

I used to start the game using just wind turbines for power and after watching this, realized that doing such cost more in the long run verses using a coal plant.

This is easily one of the best city builders out there. While it focuses more on the aesthetic and traffic than some other great ones which focus a bit more on the management (SimCity 2000/3000), its still the one I play the most. Absolutely love jumping into a random vehicle and just seeing my cities from the cims' perspective.

As for starting off new in the game, the biggest money mistakes are probably, 1) too many roads, or too many high-density roads to start, 2) not realising that you can adjust your budget on electrical/water to save some money (they'll be over-producing until you hit a couple thousand cims), 3) not taking the loans as they are available.

I stopped using the wind turbines when I played on a map with variable wind and I was always having to adjust the budget to handle the low wind times. Now I have the green cities DLC so I use coal until I get to the green cities power plants, then I start replacing the coal with first the geothermal power plant and later the updraft power plant. Once I have a updraft power plant the last remaining coal plants get deleted.

Funny story, I was playing my first snowfall maps. It was just after I got the snowfall and green cities DLCs. I decided the use only green energy. I did succeed but the start was a bit rocky. After 20 wind turbines and 4 of the off shore wind turbines I finally got to the point where I could buy the geothermal power plant. I learn about heating houses with the special heated water pipes as well. First for a lot of things, heating houses with electricity puts a serious drain on the electricity.
