I'm 99.999999% sure Cities Skylines 2 will need to be purchased by everyone including current players of Cities: Skylines... I don't work for the company, but most games don't give you the free new version... Doom players still had to pay for Doom 2, Warcraft 2 players still had to pay for Warcraft 3, Frostpunk players will have to pay for Frostpunk 2, etc. It's rare (though not unheard of) in the gaming community to get sequels for free

Exactly like that OP ! Since I bought CIV 1 decades ago, I never paid for another CIV. Was always able to get the next version for free. Because you know, this is the world we live in. Amiright?

X plane 12 isn't a free upgrade to owners of X Plane 11. You have to pay for it again. It was actually the other way round. If you bought X Plane 12 during Early Access they gave you a free copy of X Plane 11 so 'uses can still fly their add-on aircraft that are not yer compatible with the new X Plane 12'. Which is a bit silly really because if you had legacy X Plane 11 aircraft you would already have a paid for copy of X Plane 11 some time ago.

I'm expecting that we will need to pay full price - maybe $60 to $70. That's how it was with Civilization VI and other games that have been reworked extensively. Game programmers don't come cheap! I figure that If I get an hour of enjoyment for each $1 I spend, that's pretty cheap.

That is also my magic number.
On a smaller scale: a "chaep" game thats the equivalent of a night at the movies ~15€ should entertain me a good evening/night.

This game has dozens of DLC and if you exclude the radio stations its really worth it. Each and every DLC.
And the radio stations are also kind of worth it if you buy a bundle in sale.

I got enough entertainment for my money, and Im happy I spent it. They can start a new game and if it lives up to its predecesor Im happy.

The better question with new versions of games like CS2 coming out, is whether or not its worth switching over or not. Typically the new game has better graphics etc, but is lacking a massive amount of features that the old one had, which are then reintroduced through new DLC.

Not sure how much will be missing in CS2 compared to CS. I wonder how many people will decide to stick with the old game.

Well, you will just have to wait until Paradox says something official. Are you thinking about one of the Europa Univesalis gamea? I know they offered a free edition of one of the games to owners of the game.

I would really hope so. I bought CS just two months ago, and then just as I started to enjoy the game the CS2 was revealed. I guess I'm just gonna stay with the old game for a while
