error message makes game unplayable please help

Hey guys,
just wondering if anybody can help me with an error code i got on citites skylines today.
When i load up my game it comes up saying an error occured and it says -
''Object reference not set to an instance of an object [System.NullReferenceException]''.
when i pause the game the message goes away but when i unpause and play the game the message keeps popping up around every 2-3 seconds and is really frustrating.
Also when i paused so i could actually look around my city without the error message keep popping up making the game unplaybale, i noticed that all my buildings had lost their power and water.

Any tips on how to fix this guys because the game is unplayable at the moment

Let me guess you are using mods and assets and forgot to enable them when you loaded your save file?

Do not have the full answer at the moment. I'm facing the same problem.
Did not play for a few days, and when I restarted, the same message appeared.
Do not think that it is a mod like Traffic++ for example.
I'm using quite a few and did not have any problems with them.
However, what I noticed is that the problem comes up on the very last save. When I load the one before, the game goes back to normal. But.....

I realised that we cannot play with the items we suscribed to in the workshop.
In other words, only the original ones and assets we do not share are available.
Looks like the game is not "connected" to the workshop.
It could be the last update for Steam not long ago that screwed up somewhere...

if the vanilla game is changed, u should noticed it, as it generally come as patch, with a size, take time to download

if a mod is updated, u likely won't notice it, because it generally so small the file size

to prove it, unsub all mods, then come back tell us do u still have the problem

Did unsuscribe the mods, but the problem is not solved...
In fact, the best is to restart a new game, but cannot get the items from the workshop working.
They are unavailable...

have fixed the problem and this may help, when you go to your libary right click on cities and then press properties. Once you have done that press in game and disable steam overlay, thiis worked for me.

That's one reason I don't use mods.
