How good is "No Despawn"?
I really want to play the game without despawning cars, but so far i heard ppl saing it doesn't work very good bc of the AI, 24/7 workers and the ridiculous amount of cars you get later in the game.
can someone share their experience with "no despawning cars" in the current state of the game?
i don't mind a challenge but i don't wanna add something the game can't handle very well.

I´m using Traffic ++ wich has no despawn integrated. My city has about 15000 people but jams
like crazy. Its a constant headache to try to solve this issue, but its also a hell of fun. I wouldn´t want to play without no despawn. Having said that, i think the numbers in this game are completely unrealistic.

I agree with 'gax' as I too play with no despawn of vehicles and it definitely makes the game more challenging and fun at the same time. I've had traffic jams that run for blocks that I've to figure out how to resolve. Nothing more satisfying in the game than to clear up a big traffic jam and watch the traffic free flow after that.

I would say it's worth it to try it and see if you like it. I do!

I am at 90K with No Despawn and I am not using Traffic ++. It requires quite a bit of planning but it can be done. I prefer it because if despawning is happening it often means that raw materials and goods are not being delivered and that costs you money. However, I have had to turn it off a few times when I made major changes to my roadways that caused a temporary traffic jam due to rout recalculation. I just saved the game, turned it off - waited for the jam to clear- saved it again and loaded the save with it turned on again. Great Mod and it is working for me with After Dark.

hey cass. can you tell me the reason why you don't use traffic++. i thought this would help you alot in the planning with all the different options.
i almost feel like its a must with no despawn.

I got the game shortly after it came out and I was concerned about mod compatibility with future updates. So I stayed away from the more complex mods. I just started to play the game again since AD came out and I am happy to see that Traffic++ is turning in to a mature mod. The person/people responsible for it have done a great job. But at this point I don't need it. My city layout and heavy reliance on freight trains keeps my roads clear.

The major penalty is not being realistic with population. I really love sim city at this point. When you provide infrastructure, see the tallest buildings growing up is outstanding. Priceless. Furthermore, buildings design is so, so much better by EA and Maxis, like interior mapping for example. C:S you cant see inside the buildings. A mix of C:S and Sim city would be a perfect match. I really dislike houses counting 2 or 3 houses and buildings with 30 floors counting 16 houses. We know popular apartments buildings can count in average 4 apartments by floor.

A C:S CONS feature!

For immersion purpose, i multiply the population number with 10(doesn´t work with buses thou). Iirc, C:S is using the low numbers because each one is being simulated, unlike in SC games.

That would do it! XD I love freight trains, but figuring out how to fully integrate a massive freight rail system in to my is a bit of a challenge. The issue isn't so much that there's no room, it's that I have a very specific way of building the city to optimize the spread of all the service centers.

I tend to group police, fire, medical, and educational resources together. Over time, I will even move the zones around to try to get the things that use the resources the most grouped with those resources. Doing it this way makes it hard to figure out just where I should put a freight station because it tends to lock up quite a bit of area, both for the station itself and for the problems it causes around it. XD

Do u know that u dont have to connect your industry to your residential. People dont need to go to work. All it does is generate a lot of useless traffic.

I got 750k city with no despawn and traffic ++. Challenge, but with good mass transit it's not even near as bad as one would think. Right planning helps too, at most i have around 5000 vehicles out including trucks, service vehicles, 700 buses and private cars. But lord have mercy when one vehicle gets confused and stops the traffic. Within seconds the queues back up blocks after block and grinds the whole city to halt. But i love it, great challenge to get it moving again. Although sometimes garbage piles up too much and about 50k people end up leaving. Which then contribute more to the traffice troubles making it twice as bad!
