Still impossible to make a tourist city...
While i love cities skylines, it always lacked purpose for tourism,.
Not only there was basicly none ( compared with your total population) the money earned from tourist was laughable.

So we had After dark a DLC fully focused on tourism ^^ WOOP WOOP that sure got me hyped.
TILL

- i figured there haven't been any change to the tourism system
- Tourist based cities are still impossible
- Profit made of tourism buildings actually doesnt come from tourist but 99% of your own town folk..
- new added stuff like taxi's will only make you lose money... ( even if 100% is used you will get around 50% of its maintenace back.)

It would be nice to have towns with a better ratio ( tourist/civilians)
atm its like 100 tourists for every 30.000 civilians , what im aiming for is something more like 1:1 ratio atleast..... since thats how tourist towns irl make their money..

* ps: been trying to make a tourist town since hour 1 of cities skylines, ive tried everything even building every single tourist building ( with cheats) putting them all next to eachother will not generate tourism.... ( maybe +30 more tourist)

Have you tried spacing out your tourist attractions?

Yes, ive tried that firstly to build it like irl, when that didnt happen i started testing things, as making a full unique building square, record how many tourist add up when you place unique buildings etc.

Well awnser is didnt help and increased tourist by 0 , in my opinion its broken.

Currently on AD dlc the commercial and tourism buildings do make money..... but they come of your own civilians not tourist....

The number of tourists is also influenced by distance to outside connections and ability to move around a city. I would also suggest comparing numbers to number of tourists who use public transport.

I have the same issue here. Tourism just dosent seem to work properly. Ive got all the attractions,Intercity Rail connections, new International Airport, Fanatastic transport system etc. Weekly Tourists 300! Most come by train, my top of the range airport accounts for 20 tourists per week!

Exactly its a real shame its the way the game is played, but from launch on i havent heard a single dev talk about it :(

I love this game but this Tourism thing is really begining to annoy me. In SimCity (2013) it was actualy possible to make money off tourist buildings and if you got it right make insane amoutns of cash from a casino for example. I assumed After Drak would give us this ability, it seems not. Its the tourist stuff thats killing my income, its just not making anything like what Im outlaying for it.

Hi guys,

I like to join in, i must agree on this point, tho and extreem lover of the game.

I also tried every possible combination with Leisure and Tourisme, there's no way i can get above 300/w when playing with a 140,000/160.000 cims.Airport gives me no more then 3--35 a week, so it's there must be ahuge amont of hijacked planes somewhere:steamhappy :steamhappy: I am focussing on the esthetic part again as i did before and wich i also like on this game.As far as the lightning goes it's the same, hope they fix that soon, cause it's annoying like this to play and honestly i know it is a small company, and i need to probably have more patience with this specific company wich i very much admire for there effforts in this game. but i am at least dissapointed......:steamsad:

Good to know I not the only one to notice. It also seems that the day/cycle is really only cosmetic at best. I dont see any difference at all in the way the city functions, all areas are just as busy as normal. For example transport at night people are still communting to industry as if it were day and I dont see any difference in transport usage at all. Maybe the cycles are just too short to make any difference?

The Tourism issue is my real pet hate tbh.

I must say while the new day/night cycle isnt what i expected completly, it does reduce traffic at night, most cars arent driving and the things that you will see driving mostly are industrial trucks/busses/taxis etc.

A lot of sims are going back home when it gets night, due to the fast cycle to day it could be that by the time they are home its already morning again ( my bus station was swarmed at nightimes with people who wanted to go home

Further more yup its pure cosmetic :(

I find that building more commercial than my citizens need for their own shopping needs is important to boosting tourism. Make shopping an export, and make your new tourism and liesure districts an export too. With all your unique buildings and monuments, etc and excellent transit options for the tourists, then you should experience improved income from tourists. Just make sure the surplus commercial lots have workers. You may need to import some of your goods rather than produce them in town, as you will need a large work force for your commercial districts.

While yes its boosting the amount of tourist did you manage to get over 1000 tourist in a not to oversized town( lets say with less then 50k people)?

No, I haven't. I started a new city to enjoy the expansion and it hasn't grown enough yet. I was just sharing the technique I used on previous cities, before the expansion, when I wanted to boost tourism as much as possible.

I'm also doing this. I never tried for tourists before this up date, so I need to experiment now.

I can't yet comment if it's broken or not.

I wish to add that I also want tourism to be boosted. I didn't mean to give the impression that lack of tourists is a user issue. It definitely is not.

Appriciate the sharing man! The thing is that the problem isnt the knowhow ,but the problem is that tourist in large numbers arent supported by the engine.. which renders Afterdark specializations sorta worthless ( they do work but use your town population to make profit instead of outside sources)
