What's the point of the Bus station?
Is it really needed?

no it's not, but it helps if want to centralize your bus lines. (and to keep bus stops that may have more then one line for them from clogging the streets with busses)

if you have too many cars on your streets the bus station will help. so people can get to work or to wherever they have to go in a more "compact" way so it won't create as much traffic.

You can also use metro

The bus station is poorly designed. The cims don't use the building but rather wander all over the concourse straight into the path of oncoming traffic! It's bonkers- a poorly thought out and executed design

Keep in mind that some CIMS are purely decorative, not actual "moving" agents.

This new Bus Depot that came with AfterDark seems Useless... It doesnt even appear to have a way to spawn busses from it like all the other bus depots...So what are we supposed to do wtih it?

The bus station for me has been a godsend in my horribly run city.

A bus depot is still needed for the buses to spawn, and park when their shifts are over. Think of a bus station as being like that part of a transportation network, where Cims are gathered throughout an entire residential, commercial, or industrial area by a fleet of buses, to be sent to another area altogether, whether it's by subway, train, or another fleet of buses, or vice-versa. Think back to why city planners typically think of road networks as being like branches of a tree.

If we need a bus depot why do we not also need a train depot? The new bus station "hub" is a poor piece of design. Cims don't use the building and wander all over the concourse in the path of oncoming busses. The new airport is a mess too, like a giant anthill.

Bcause trains more commonly go intercity (At least with these tracks), buses don't. Maybe when we see trams, we'll have to give those a depot somewhere.

The new bus station is simply a hub - The grand central of bus stations (Which is a concept completety common in cities as small as 50.000 inhabitants or less in real life)

I have taken to just building the pedestrian paths underground. It helps with traffic a lot.
