Day/Night Game Mechanics/Budget
The new game mechanics do not make any sense. Power usage should be lower at night not higher. If everything closes at night why would electricity increase? Why does my education need to be at 100% at night? Same with health care. If there is less traffic at night that means less people out and about which should equal less hospital visits. Am I just crazy, missing something or just whining too much?

Just 10 minutes ago I replaced an oil power plant with a solar one (remembering how super good it was a few months ago) and because the oil power plant had no resources at the moment and I was still/again green with the solar one, I sold it (green energy for the win etc.). Suddenly my whole city is in need of electricity. Why? Well the sun went down and suprise suprise solar plants don't work at night! :D

but of course it would be even better if the traffic would also have a day/night cycle with heavy traffic especially in the morning and afternoon and I guess it would be quite easy to implement but probably in a way that the city would feel more programmed and less alive then it is now.

it would be nice if some businesses do not work at night

A funny story, I stop the night bus service and the people continue to wait for the bus...
They wait for the bus and then make their way on foot without affecting their morale.
They are happy to do the walk, and they do not even take a taxi ^^

What, you know not of night schooling?

About the traffic at night, you definitely need to see this:

And what time of night was that picture taken? winter night? 2AM? I could take a picture of heavy traffic between 5pm and 6pm in the winter and pass it off as taken in the middle of the night.

The City I live in does not have pre-schools, primary schools and secondary schools open after 5pm nevermind open in the middle of the night.

You obviously never go into your local UK town between the hours of 2am-4am- its a war zone!

You are right because I'd be tucked up in bed. Maybe be a warzone Saturday and Sunday mornings but I'm past that age going night clubbing.

Did you take closer look at your city's power consumption?

Without taking any commercial specializations into account your city should already be using less power at night then during the day. My current city (started with After Dark) has around -15% less electricity consumption at night (didn't built any leisure spec yet - which is supposed to have an increased consumption).

Regarding various other aspects, esp. education: Those are probably related to the original games balancing. Unlike SC13 the game is simply not build with a "real" day/night cycle in mind and your students still need to be able to "satisfy" their demand for education.

But it should be possble to adjust some of these aspects (e.g. healthcare) comparable to the current crime rate (which is increased at night/decreased during day).

Yes consumption decreases but the industry is still in business, what reduces the energy consumption then?
mreed2 Sep 27, 2015 @ 8:09am
Industry doesn't shutdown /entirely/, but it does dramatically reduce the amount of business it does. Traffic to industry also signficantly drops. I believe the same happens with commerical (business slows down, but nothing actually completely closes), excepting the new business specialization types.

It is clearly a bug that schools don't shut down, though.

This game is too basic in management, and information are essential are missing.
Budget and management is only a pretext for a play of lego ...
Simcity 4 (2003...) was and will remain the ultimate reference

You are trying to much to act smart.

That pic could have been taken at 6pm in winter time.
I strongly doubt that my cities coffee shops and stores are working at night time cause they have bussines on the other side of the globe.BPO could only be associated with big cities.

Any chance a dev could give us his/her opion on this subject? Is it a limitation on the games code? Is it possible to make a mod that can change some of the things like schools not open at night periods? That way both parties will be happy, those who don't mind the kids going to school in the middle of the night don't use the mod.

I would just be happy with being able to tweak individual buildings budgets. Like say an area is more dense you could increase the funding for the nearest school only instead of the whole city.

Hmmm..

@Stryder
Would be really helpful regarding the current situation of solar power plants.
