Why can't I cross roads like SimCity can?
Apparently search is not my friend today.

After reading the reviews I decided to bite the bullet and purchase this game since it is 50% off on sale.

I decided to make a standard 8x8 grid which is very easy to do in SimCity. Take a road and draw it horizontally, then take another road and "cross" it like this plus sign "+" to create a (4) way intersection.

I have spent the last hour reading guides, watching YouTube videos, and searching on the forums before posting this, but I cannot seem to get this game to allow me to cross roads. All I see is the Red error stating a road is already there.. <scratches head>

I know about using PgUp and PgDwn, but you don't see that in real life where you have to raise a road 1 story over the other road.. Simple 4-way interections are everywhere and the lifeblood of a typical city.

Why is this so easy in SimCity but not in Cities: Skylines? If the answer is that you can't build a super simple "+" intersection, then this puppy is getting refunded.

Thoughts?

Connect one side of the road and then the other rather than trying to go totally across in one motion.

what you need to do is make a T intersection then make it a + intersection.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=529282453 Simplicity in itself. If the game can't handle this then it is time to refund it and let someone make a mod for it. Too bad since I was really looking forward to this game.

It is a really simple thing, in a game that is praticly a spritial successor to simcity. It something that can get used to really easy after awhile. It just connect to the road first before continuing. You would be missing out on alot from this game if let something that get in your way.

It's not just that, unlike SC you cannot simply take the marquee and drag around your housing, commercial, or industrial zones. If I want to make a 32x128 commercial zone in any Siim City for the last 20 years no problem, just drag and drop. But in this game you can't zone first and then put your roads in as you see fit.

In C:S you cannot drag and drop your marqees to make a rectangle, square, etc. Nope - gotta build your roads every other grid line first.

This game knew it was competing against 20 years of Sim City history and arguably SC has one of the best game UI's period. This interface has lot of little ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ like this that tell me that they do not have a Usability team who made sure the interface is intuitive, and easy to use, or this would have been addressed a *long* time ago.

Unfortuntely I just wasted 1.9 hours of my life in this game and got a refund. What's ironic about this is Cities XL 2011 (IIRC) had no problem with this at all. So what's the deal with C:S?

Peace out.. ;-(

Or you know... just drag it to the intersection, and then onward. Simplicity - And angle precise roads.

Try to get used to it. One can teach an old dog to sit even with the 20 y SC habit. you will miss out on awesome things this game offer if you are not willing to think new. but hey.. up tp you.

..but before you walk away..Give it time and stop comparing. Learn things from scratch and take it easy.and Oh, -take a look at the awesome stuff people have posted and made. Really, they make hilarious stuff, cool and gorgeous stuff you can never do in SC.

Peace.

Sounds like a wise decision, if the "issues" you mention already annoy you enough to quit the game. I hope you find another game that has a more fitting UI for you.

That's really amazingly poor game design

It's like they're intentionally wasting our time.

Is there at least a mod or something to fix this? This game has so many damn issues I'm thinking of demanding a refund too. The UI is one of the worst I've ever seen.

Don't forget to leave a negative review.

This game doesn't work exactly like another game.

That's it, it's obviously worthless.

Here's a thing to consider, in SC 2013 you could draw a Marquee, yet couldn't absolutely guarentee you left enough space for buildings to reach maximum wealth/density.

You also couldn't create one-way roads, roads with bus lanes, pedestrian paths or bike lanes.

The weird thing is SC 2013 provided a UI for covering large stretches of land quickly but didn't provide the large stretches of land.

Games do things differently, you adapt or die, or in some cases get a refund for ridiculous reasons.

Except, you know, SimCity (2013).

It's not *just* the roads. The interface is deficient in so many different infuriating ways (and this is coming from someone who plays Dwarf Fortress).
tjasonham Oct 3, 2015 @ 4:09pm
Hahaha this thread is insane. 1.9 hours, thank god you got that refund. Give it another shot (or good riddance, can't tell). The intersections are built this way to allow for the creation of more complex ones.

Also there are 3 types of ways to do zoning and it is, in my opinion, superior to SC.
la_nague Oct 3, 2015 @ 4:10pm
lol, this game doesnt use a grid like the old simcity 4, you can do great things with roads and intersections in this game.

If you refund the game because you have to do 1 additional click, then you wanted to hate the game anyways and youll just play simcity 4 for the next 20 years because the next good city builder will be skylines 2 and youll hate that too.
You wont get a good simcity ever again, move on.
