Car tolls money?
Heya, I'm kinda new on the game, and on my first playthrough I realized that I was loosing lots of money by not taxing roads with tolls.

So on my second game, I started by building car tolls. Lots of these I guess : I have 14 right now and they're all at maximum price. Cars still go through it and I got like 15k monthly revenue, only from car tolls (I've not started building the city yet)

So I wonder : Is there a limit to this ?
Is there a way to know how attractive my roads are?
Is there a way to keep it crowded on the long term?
Will I get desert roads if I let the game run for long?

I've noticed money went to red after I've built my 20th car toll, so I've deleted some back to 14 but now it still work.

Might sound like crazy questions sorry but any advice or knowledge about these questions and more generally on roads and car tolls appreciated. thanks

Oh and about the prices, I got a mod to increase maximum toll price so might be confusing. But well.. This trick made me greedy € ^^

edit : to clarify this, I've noticed how cars seem to not care about the tolls prior to installing this mod. For example, I've seen cars just rollin around from tolls to tolls while there was free ways to use

Well sure, if you use a mod that changes the toll price without changing the pathfinding to make it so that people start avoiding them when they're expensive, then you can make as much money as you want.

I don't really see the point, though -- you could just use a mod to grant yourself money directly, at that point, or play on unlimited money anyway...

My questions are not about the mod but about the tolls and specifically if there is something like road attractivity ? And a way to know how the current tolls influence the whole city/the road it's built on.

the toll doesn't factor into pathfinding.
but the slower speedlimit at the toll booth does.

pathfinding picks the fastest route while only looking at road lenght and speed limit.
traffic jams and other stuff are ignored.

Toll booths are pretty useless in the base game from my experience. I have them in every city because I'd love to see some money come back for road maintenance, but they almost never cover their own running costs. Maybe I'm using them wrong (max price, tolls at every city highway access), but it seems that I should be making more if every car/truck entering/exiting the city has a toll.

As Coookyman said, theres no real penalty to placing toll booths, though if you don't have the "Automated Tolls" district policy, they can easily cause tons of traffic as cars are brought to a stop at the booth.

Yeah, they have the usual "claimed number of cars per week seems totally unrelated to actual traffic" problem. And as a result, even a really busy highway never seems to make enough to bother having it -- maybe it makes 50/week, but that's irrelevant, and definitely not worth the time to place it, get it water+electricity, and deal with the worse traffic.

Jack the toll to 10.00 per car.
I stick toll booths at the very ends of each Highway connection to my city and nowhere else. I love gouging the wallets of those Dummy traffic vehicles the game keeps spamming endlessly to simulate traffic throughout my region, pay up if you're just passing through my city you bums or find another route, I say :P And I totally jack up the price of the toll and I never enact the Automated Tolls Policy to make my point bluntly clear.
