How do I place the power lines without making the city messy?
Any tutorial or advice for it?

That was a good watch but I think you posted the wrong video. I'm talking about the power lines that provides electricity for the city.

Well you only need a line to connect things if their blue bubbles, as seen on the electricity overlay, are not touching. As your city grows, you likely will not need many of the electric wires you had to put up initially.

If you have a group of wind turbines way off to the left, and your housing area far off to the right, thats just 1 single line of wires, to the edge of each blue bubble. Thats it, done.

And if you have yet another, seperate and unpowered group of housing even further to the right... start a new power-line that only runs between their blue areas. You don't need to use 1 single line from way back at the turbines.

I tend to run them alongside rural roads and rural highways. Usually I only run them up to the edge of an inhabited area and then I'll use a park or service building to extend the power bubble to meet the powerlines.

I somehow suck at this. @.@ The residential area is telling me it needs a water sewage so I made one and connected both water and electricity in it somehow it didn't do anything for the city. Guess I need to play around a bit more. I won't be eligible for refund if I play too much and still has no idea how to play the game.

Both water pump and sewage plant need connection to electricity AND to your water grid.

your electrity needs to connect to near the sewage drain, but the water pipe need to actually connect to it.

You could always post two screenshots here. One in normal view, and one with the water info view (so we can see the underground pipes).

this is why I think pipes and powerlines should go along streets. micromanagement isn't always fun. I'd be fine micromanaging cell towers though, as it would add benefit to live and work in a place with better reception. Nobody in their right mind would live somewhere without power or water so its fruitless(if they have a choice).

I don't mind the micromanagement with powerlines, because you don't need many usually. But I've never understood what laying down water pipes adds to gameplay.

It took me ages to realise that you can use page up/down to increase and decrease the height of the pylons.

Still not very neat, but it did help some.

Probably because there was some criticism towards SC2013 and the lack of this compared to SC4.

Don't let real life interfere too much :-)

Realistic power lines tend to follow major highways, train tracks, etc. They'll kind of always be big metal towers, but I place mine along highways, those back roads where I keep my garbage dumps, manufacturing districts, etc.. I actually kind of like the industrial feel the power lines give to those areas, so aside from emulating real life, it makes those parts of my city more aesthetically pleasing to me.

doing my very best not to! :-)
