Anyway to get your citizens to use rail to travel outside the city?
My trains average about 75-100 passengers coming into the city. But no one gets on them going out of the city. Three at the most. Any way to address this?

Those could just be people moving into the city. You possibly need more tourism stuff to get more non-residents. Not knowing anything about your city, hard to say. You can randomly check some people getting off the train to see where they are going,

thanks

So I checked & everyone using the trains are tourists or exchange students

Exchange students could be there a long time. Tourists should leave again in their lifetime, but they might spawn a car instead of taking the train back, if their last destination doesn't have good public transport option back to the intercity train station. I'd say don't worry about it

I've also had a city wheres no one ever left because they were stuck in an overcrowded subway station with 1000's packed on the platform, so obviously, overall everything needs to be running smoothly.

Wasn't so much worried as much as searching for the realism. It took me forever to figure out how to get trains going in the 1st place.

I'm currently redoing my downtown & subway system so I'll see if I can get better transport to the central station.

You'd think that if it were the only method of getting out they would use it. However I have never found passenger rail in CS to be either reliable or necessary.

Try improving transport options towards your train station.

I consistently handle hundreds of out of town travellers in my railway stations.

As for being necessary, they are not, just like in real life, many places do just fine without them, but they do work if used properly.

Thanks! I've got the current city pretty well under control. May try introducing a passenger rail service to see what's new.

Well, So much for passenger rail. Laid track one side of map to other. Built terminal. Zoned 50k residential. NOT one damn train.

Cargo trains are MUST HAVE. Passenger trains useless.

Neither cargo or passenger trains are strictly required to have a functional city.

Both cargo and passenger trains work if properly setup.

Passenger rail stations with intercity service benefit from substantial public transit access to the rest of town.

I'll have to take your word for it. Created track from right edge of map to left edge of map. Connected track to train terminal using bypass. No trains. No passengers. No one waiting at station to board. Simple track, no fancy intersections. Easy access to City. Station says "Operating". If citizens won't use it to get in and out of town it is useless.

Track all good no issues or broken connections. Tried four different stations and hubs that all reported "operating normally" You can keep inferring improper setup if you like but unless you can provide acceptable procedure, your repeated slur's are as useless as the passenger rail line.

I only found out recently that if you have 81 tiles, you can place a stop @ the edge of your map & have the route stop @ your main station then back to the edge of your map.

One thing to remember is that with multi-platform train stations, you need to connect all tracks to the outside connection someway. This way, trains from the outside connections can have a place to pull in to. I have no idea what happened to the screens I had for such, but I can grab a couple to give you an idea as to what I am referring to.

Here are some examples of multi-platform stations.

This one is in my city of Jasper.

This is in Victor.

I have a city with a multi-platform through station like Tsubame has, but I cannot remember the city.

@whiteknight. Funny. The name I gave my current city is Jasper. And I used that platform.
