Death Wave still a thing?
Been away for a few years. Is the death Wave still a problem?

They slightly randomized citizen lifecycles in the free patch when Sunset Harbor came out, and thanks to this the death rate isn't nearly as fluctuating as it used to be for me.

It wasn't an issue back then, and isn't an issue now.

It was always caused by the player.

And if you want a bit more nuance, the Lifecycle Rebalance Revisited 1.6.1 mod makes cims progress through the age categories more naturally, giving them several years as a young child before they can attend school, and more realistic chances of death based on age. It also randomizes the ages of immigrants, which is what really eliminates death waves.

The Sunset Harbor update simply gave every cim a random maximum age.

As long as you don't zone a ton of residential while your game is paused, death waves shouldn't occur,

They try to walk away from the term now days, but a lot of people still die over a short amount of time. Thing is that just makes more room for new people to move in so it actually turns out to be a bit of a money maker for the city if it's handled right.

Thanks
Heard something changed the ages
Yep, don't over zone!

Changing the age only moves the line it does not change the number of those who cross it.

Because the game now gives every cim a random maximum age, the death waves are much less pronounced. Even if you have 10.000 cims move in all on the same day, their deaths will be spread out over a couple of years. It does largely eliminate the problem; you can zone quite recklessly and not really worry about death waves.

The mod I mentioned goes further by randomizing their age at time of immigration as well. Some immigrants will be adults with a random amount of education, some will be children who will attend your schools, and some will be seniors looking for a relaxing retirement in your small town.

I know this is much less of an issue than before, but I still strongly suggest using this mod:

Mods like that are boring.

In vanilla I actually get even the odd senior moving in, so it's not just the mod doing it. Some adults also turn seniors earlier than others.

I really don't think the mod was especially made for those who are easily bored but I'm even more sure that the author never intended that any one should be forced to use it against their will.
That's why I use what I find to be a much more exciting Mod. The mod I use lets them go right on dyeing right and left if they want to.

I feel like there's been another patch too in the game and honestly I only had the deathwave happen once because of really overextending myself. As a general rule of thumb I zone new territory on fast forward speed and that tends to work well for me.

Hmm. I suppose it is possible that I am misremembering the patch notes; it was a few years ago.
