No, trees you delete/remove/billdoze disappear from your save forever. The only trees affected by what holbs said are the ones covered up by a network segment, plopped buildings or hidden by zoned growable buildings.
True - if you build over the tree (road, ploppable or zone) it simply hides the tree - it doesn't remove it. Use the bulldoze tool and it WILL remove the tree from the game.
Ehh, the bulldozer is too slow as it only removes one tree at a time. The Forest Brush mod is the better option as it provides a brush you can increase/decrease in size for mass deleting trees.
If one has Extra Landscaping Tools, you can also use the tree tool from the landscaping menu, change the brush size, then right click and hold to erase trees as well.
During previous testing, it was found that if you wish to make a fertile ground area, any type of trees in said area would make the area less fertile. By painting a large tree area with the tree brush, then erasing it either by the right click method or Move It. If there are any trees under a road, they will not be removed and can affect said area.
you can doubleclick the tree checkbox (or any of the checkboxes) to quickly unselect everything else.
Right here for the mod:

And it'll be located on the toolbar to the right of the landscaping button, IIRC.
