Area has no main building....?
Ok. this should not be so difficult.
I have painted an industry area, and places a main building there (farming). WHen I want to place a field there it says, "Area has no main bulilding"?

Any ideas?

EDIT - I have reread more carefully the post, the only reason I can think of is if you have different districts side by side, one with a Main Building, and one without, and the building you are trying to place is straddling both districts.

If that is not the case, I would try erasing the district and rebuild it again.

When you place a main building, it creates it's own industry district, so place the blg then go back with the district painting tool and expand the district from around the building.

In this screen shot I placed down a new farm main building and you can see a district was create around it. Now I can go back with the district tool and expand the district, so any building I put down now will be in the district associated to this main building.

If you paint a district 1st then put a main building down, now you have 2 districts, a tiny one around the building and the big one you built that you'd expect to be able work properly but it doesn't because there is no main building.

This worked!
A bit strange though as I think I have always painted a industry district first and then placed the main building, but hey....whetever works:)

Thanks!

Yes I have several ideas.

First one would be for you to explain which type of industry. DLC, generic, or specialized?
Second would be for you to explain which industrial brush you used to paint the area?
Left to Right>>> 1st 2nd 3rd or 4th brush?

AFAIK there's two reasons this happens: the first is you used the normal district painter instead of the Industries DLC one, and the second is you placed the main building on the edge of your area and this caused the game to create the second area around the main building. Avoid doing either of those and you can paint the area first and then plop down the main building without issue.

Sometimes, with the Industries DLC, one has to paint the industry area first, especially when you are building a new city. You cannot get the main building to show until you paint the Industry Area first. After the first one, then you can plop a main building and its area for your new industry.

This video will also help.
