*** Recent AVG update stops Cities: Skylines from running at all ***

In the last few days we've had several cases where this game crashed right at the start, with a Windows error either BEX 64 or APPCRASH. This is on computers where the game had been working fine.

By experiment it has been found that disabling AVG, or adding cities.exe to AVG's exception list (whitelist) immediately fixes the problem.

It's not known at present whether an AVG app update, or virus signature update, initiated the problem.

avg ate my exe. I know now to put it on the whitelist. is there a way to get my exe back without doing a reinstall and loosing my saves ?

I bought the game yesterday, so I have the newest update. But right the minute the load-screen shows up, the music crashes and the screen itself becomes halfway loading, black or white. It takes many minutes to load the game and when it is finally loaded, it works very slow and every movement takes 10 seconds. The graphics are also very bad... I don't use AVG so I have really no clue what is going on... What should I do? I really wanna play the game....

The past few days, cities skylines has started to crash during bootup on the Paradox screen. I get the error message that Cities.exe has stopped working. I read this discussion yesterday, and I went ahead and uninstalled AVG. STILL have the same problems. Whatever it is, it is not solely being caused by AVG. Any ideas?

If you don't have AVG, are you fine? I mean, is it on every Windoes machine? Because I know I have Webroot as my antivirus program.

Chill - if your Cities is crashing it isn't because of AVG...

I don't think that I have the best pc whatsoever, but I think that you shouldn't use AVG anymore. I use Microsoft security essentials and I never had any crash issues. Also how many mods do you use? Are ALL mods up to date? Are all of your assets up to date? If just only one is not up to date then this also could causes your game to crash. Also use as few as possible mods you can. I only use 8 mods.

Use the verify integrity button under the steam options, surely you will get the files you were looking for repaired and recovered if for whatever reason your game files were damaged.

If that doesn't work, go research more about your PC, as there could be 100+ different issues. REMOVE YOUR OUTDATED MODS!!! I mean seriously, the amount of technical stuff I do just to get games that don't work normally on my OS is crazy insane. I might as well become a tech guy for a living.

Same thing happened to me. I just deleted all local content, including unsubscribing and deleting all workshop items, and redownloaded the game. It worked fine after that but now I am having problems with my mods not being installed into the game. Anyways hope this helps.
