More causal city builder?
I like city building games. I was able to play this game for a tiny bit during the free weekend. I didn't get very far but it has the stuff I don't like. I didn't like having to deal with the micromanaging. I got to the part where I unlocked districts. I didn't get to play any more after that, but all the little bonus effects, traffic managing, happiness levels, etc. are confusing to me and I just wanted to know if there are other similar but more casual city building games. Anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks.

maybe a facebook/mobile phone city builder might be more what you are looking for?

I have Tropico 4 and played it for a bit but I moved on. I don't remember liking it very much.

Probably sarcasm post but I don't care for anything FB and mobile games are plagued with microtransactions and waiting ridiculous amounts of time to get something accomplished.
No micromanaging? Then you are better of playing one of the many Sim Cities.

you can turn the unlimited money and unlock all mods on and skylines becomes a very casual city builder, you'll still have to deal with traffic but you could just build and create a beautiful city without having to stress too much about the little things

Sounds cool. Maybe I'll give it another shot when I get the chance.

simcity5 is much easier

Sim City 5 is far more casual and a decent game to wet your city building appetite before moving onto Cities Skylines :D There are mods to remove some micro managing in Cities Skylines (auto emptying cemetaries and garbage dumps for example), though traffic management and citizen happiness are crucial requirements of building and running a city, I don't know of any city builder that doesn't have those tasks in it.

What do you call micro managing in this game ?

I went to multiple +100k population cities...
The only micro managing I did with districts were either some park policies, the hightech policy, and the heavy traffic ban... besides that, sure the game offers you way many more choices, but honnestly, it's not really required to still have a very functionning city... and once you know the ones you need, then it's a mater of a few seconds here and there... I don't really call that micro managing.

I never touched the taxes in any of my cities, I sometimes fiddle a bit with the budget if I'm low on cash early game and need to save a bit on water costs or push up electricity to avoid building one more wind turbine...

Then you have roads layout... there is what you mainly spend your time with in this game, but I don't call that micro managing, as it's the core activity of the game... and seconly where you place your various services...

So maybe you tried to do too much than what was really needed, and once you know how this game plays out, it's only up to you to do more complicated things, but never in any case is it a required thing to sucessfully build a city.

My thoughts exactly.
I tried the game during free play weekend and I fell inlove with it. Haven't used districts that much, only to set forestry and oil specializations, but will have a look at them after I clean up some of my newbie mistakes.

Interesting, I used to tweak my budget all the time mainly for water and electricity. Now I'm remaking my streets to make beautiful curves and don't wan't to look in the budget page all the time, so I gave those a lot more juice, but still I find myself tweaking the health budget to save money when death rate is low and to fight the death spikes. I found that building extra cemeteries and crematoriums and lowering their budget saves cash, but gives you extra hearses during death spikes if you max their budget at that time.
I went on a building spree once and will have to reevaluate if maybe I could tear down (or disable) some service buildings, or atleast tweak the budget.
