Snowfall "Free DLC" Review
I didn't want to post a negative review on the base game just because of the flaws brought by the new Snowfall expansion so I'm posting a review here so it can be discussed as well.

Since the 'free update', the trees became extremely blurry (even on highest settings). The blurring is extremely noticeable with the 'Large' Cypress trees. After a day of playing, I noticed the trees weren't the only thing that suffered from the Snowfail DLC. The ground textures are all blurry regardless of how high the graphic settings are. It's really noticeable on the cliff textures.

To be honest, the rain doesn't even look that great. It looks more like a snowstorm and the lighting doesn't even change to match the weather. If it's the afternoon and it starts to rain, you're looking at an unnatural orange-y blizzard of horizontal streaks instead of rain with a gray cloudy sky (with actual proper lighting colors).

On top of that, the rain streaming down street curbs looks atrocious. It's apparent that an animated bump map was just slapped on top of roads because the curb surfaces are all stretched vertically like there wasn't ever supposed to be a change in the roads aesthetics. I wish I could write a review for the 'free DLC' because the flaws of Snowfall expansion are leaking out and staining the actual base game.

The fog also looks pretty bad since its almost identical to the smog caused by industrial pollution.

I'm also kind of confused as to why the Northern Lights are considered a 'normal' night event.

Sorry if I got a tad harsh but, the DLC really caused more harm than good since it was dumped out.

And another thing, how is there SNOW ONLY maps? I mean for $13 really? Collossal Order couldn't take a few extra months to make the snow a seasonal change? I get it, you guys wanted to stay a bit relevent with the whole "Snowmageddon" media circus but, if the DLC was going to cause this much of a problem, it could have waited until next winter for release.

Also, somehow, the Snowfall DLC (and free DLC) made the main menu launch with the vanilla background instead of even loading the After Dark DLC menu background (unless you close the game and relaunch it a second time).

With that all being said, I really love Cities: Skylines, I really do but, Snowfail is not worth half the base game (especially when its causing bugs for people that didn't even buy (or want) the expansion like myself). Don't get me wrong, making precipitation 'free' was a nice notion but, it needs work.

I agree with pretty much everything you said and I was under the impression that it would rain during the summer, fall, and spring, and snow during the winter. I guess if it was like that they would have called it "Seasons" which would be awesome but having snow all of the time sucks. I love snow but not constantly. Huge let down!

I honestly thought that was what they were going to do but at the rate of how negative the expansion is being received they should refund everyone that bought the expansion (and make it Free) and work on a Seasons Expansion instead because I really do think they wanted to cash in on the whole "Snowmageddon" craze even though they're cutting it close.

Also, to my knowledge, the rain doesn't include lightning or visibly affect anything (no fluctuations in wind currents to make trees sway more). Another visible mistep was making rain purely aesthetic (albeit poorly) because snow isn't the only thing that can impact traffic. They could have done something to incorporate the plumbing system like Drainage points to prevent flash flooding or even ordinances that prohibit driving over the speed limit during rainfall to prevent accidents (to further prevent backed up traffic).

With that in mind, shovelling out both of these DLCs seems even more rushed.

Happy to pay 13 bucks, to see almost all you cheap people cry about 13 bucks! I Support CO from cheap poops like you and your cheap sits with a H. Stand at a intersection and beg for 13 bucks I'll give it to you, if you clean my windshield.

You would probably pay 13 bucks for a dog turd on the sidewalk, "hey you here's a dog turd sandwhich for 13 bucks over here we call it a poor expansion but if you'll buy our dog turd sandwhich we will sell it to you.

I bet you bought the Battlefront Season Pass and still don't want to regret it

So I am not the only one who sees this DLC badly made and not worth of the price tag... Maybe humanity can be saved after all.

Except this guy, who believes criticism = not having money

Funny because you don't even know me, My parent's happen to own an island resort, a private plane, helicopter, yacht, an RV, and other stuff so my whole family are millionaires so I am far from being "cheap" thank you very much. I hate people that assume things when they know nothing. But back to the point of this post. It wasn't the money that is the issue it was the fact that the DLC just plain sucked. It was never about the value for me it was about the content and quality. Also they made it sound like the snow could be added to any map and it would snow from time to time however that is not the case you have to be on a snow map and there is constant snow. I love snow and that is why I was excited for this DLC however I don't like the constant snow because it is not realistic.

Good for you.

I agree that they should add it as seasonal change... On like european maps. But they adds a tram system which i missed allot from simcity 2013. And some new game mechanics like temp change controls power usage by citizens

Agreed. Also richardmyer has the most snooty comment I've ever seen but yeah permanent snow is just ... why?

But im stil happy about the Tram content and i like the idea of thermal heating and weather changing power consumption rates. It makes the game stil more realistic than any other city builder on the market. But i would love seasonal weather on maps where it makes sense like european, boreal etc.

And with 'free' rain, they could have experimented more. Drainage systems to prevent flashflooding on roadways or even irrigation specific pipelines.

I wanted to add that in there because I hate people who assume things that are so far from the damn truth. I in no way was bragging just stating that what was said by that guy was far from the truth and completely stupid. And not just when it comes to me he was saying all of us stating our opinions about the new DLC are cheap and complainers. But I am not going to get into stupid arguments with people saying oh he is bragging etc. if you take it as that well you go ahead and do that but again that was not what I was doing. If I was I would have gone into more detail. lol I was just stating my opinion about a game that I enjoy playing in my free time. That is it. End of story.

You dont need to tell about everything you parents own to tell that this game was cheap for you. I agree with radical about that... Game wasn't expensive for me neither and im a regular guy
richardmyer 20/fev./2016 às 10:43
Okay you must not understand what I said before. It isn't about how much it costed. Of course almost anyone should be able to afford to buy it. Again this whole post and my comments were about the content. Then the other guy said we were being cheap and like I said we aren't being cheap because not once did we say oh man for the money I feel ripped off, we said that the content was not what we were exected and the quality was not good. Two totally different things that I guess some of you do not understand but that is okay not everyone can be smart. But hey if you want to talk about being able to afford the game would you like me to say that I could afford to buy every single game on steam if I wanted to? It seems like you all are the one's bringing up what I had said putting more into it than you should. It was said and directed at one person and I said it just to say he should not assume we are being cheap when in fact we are not at least I am not. Because how I live I am far from being cheap. Now moving on........
