How can you tell what version you have and where do you get updates or patches (not DLC)?

Patches and updates are automatically downloaded and installed via Steam.
The current version is 1.12.2

It's shown on main menu (bottom corner) and also in log file https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=463645931

Steam keeps everything up to date, and will automatically download and install updates, including for mods and assets you subscribed in the workshop.
