CS2 Map Editor & Mods
I'm not seeing a map editor in the new game. I just hope it retains the ability to import displacement maps and data from real cities.

I also read threads that mods won't be allowed. I understand that decision. Too many mod creators would upload a killer mod, only to see it broken by a game update. Now, the devs have full control without a mod causing problems. On the downside, we may get stuck with a brand-new game that lacks features that should have been incorporated in the first place. Remember how long we lived without an UNDO feature before some kind soul made a mod?

Anyway, I've uninstalled CS1 and eagerly await the new game.

Map Editor currently isn't in the new game. Performance needs to be CO's priority for now so who knows when it will arrive.

At launch and for the first few weeks (maybe months?) there won't be mods and there won't be anymore Steam Workshop mods. Otherwise, mods will be allowed.
On console mods aren't allowed, just assets there.

The new game WILL feel like it lacks certain things, for quite some time. Until mods do come and we get new content from CO.

With all the great mods that have been made for CS1, the devs have PLENTY of material to steal, modify slightly then turn around and charge out the ass for the new "dlc".......

Mods and such for CS2 will be exclusively in paradox own mod system

It's not that it's not allowed.
It's because mods written for pc version cannot run on consoles because of hardware, OS and software (game) incompatibilites.
Simple example: Playstation 5 does not support DirectX. But since the whole Windows version is based on DirectX it means, the PS5 version of the game has a completely different code base so it can run there. But that also means code written for windows most likely does not run on consoles - and vice versa.

However it does not mean, that there won't be mods for consoles.
They need only to be specifically written for the specific environment and hardware, probably even with different tools.

Maybe you should be in the CS2 forums, instead of CS1 forums?

CS2 for Steam forums:

CS2 for Paradox forums:

Happy hunting!

I thought a person had to purchase a game before they could participate in a forum.
MarkJohnson Oct 21, 2023 @ 10:18pm
No, you can browse any forum you want. how else would you learn if you wanted the game? But all forums are free to the steam community. It even costs you the privilege to do it! $10 to be exact (that can be used on any purchase).

Sorry for not clarifying. I meant to say that if you don't buy a game you're not allowed to post any comments in that forum. Yes, you can see the posts, but that's all.

I'm going senile, so things are not as clear. I've read a lot of comments on the CS2 forum. Most of what folks have to say is speculation. They don't even have their hands on the game.

This depends on the game Developer .. some Developers/Publishers allow comments by people who do not own the game yet, so they can ask questions and determine IF they want the game. I browsed the CS2 forum earlier, and do not recall seeing a message that I could NOT post .. maybe check.

I've never been unable to post in any forum of any steam game. I often post comments before buying games to find out features and game mechanic etc.

I would be shocked if any forums locks you out. That would be counterintuitive for the buyer, and publishers don't want to discourage buyers.

Are you having trouble posting in some forums?

Maybe you're trying to post to beta game forums that are locked for testers or something?

It's very rare, but some forums have locked it to "own only" for being able to post. Usually only done in extreme cases of trolling/harassment and no one to moderate.

I picked up CS2 today, but was able to post there for the past few weeks/months without issue, so it's not an issue with CS2 steam forums.

Editor will be in the game as soon as it completes beta-testing. And it will be far more powerful than what the editors combined were in the C:S1.

Mods are allowed, why wouldn't they be? They just will be available on different platform, Paradox Mods. This is a good move as it allows mods to be used across all platforms.
MarkJohnson Oct 22, 2023 @ 11:57am
Consoles won't get mods. They will only get assets, and maybe game mode stuff at best (unlocks, info mods", only stuff that is already in the game. But that would make them a game mode, not a mod.
Stealthy Oct 22, 2023 @ 12:09pm
"Be aware that code mods may not be possible to enable on consoles however!"

Sounds like it depends on the mod and what it does & how it does it.

Most specific game forums might have one to own the game to make an original post (this is one of them), but not to post in threads created by others.
